Do I put anything (potted plants) in this empty corner or not?

Hi! Dilemma. We've just put potted plants on the stairs in the drive, which we we're happy with. Now, there's this empty corner at the top on the left that looks a bit too empty. Hubby believes it looks just fine, especially because there is a myrtus planter behind it and he thinks it needs nothing else. To me it feels like it's too bare, there is too much tile and stone and that it needs softening.
There is a socket and tap that need to remain accessible as they are used often. What do you think? With pots or without? I've included both. Whatever we put, will need to be stuck to the ground as we get high winds often here that will topple over anything, so I can't exactly remove stuff easily if they bug me.
On the right at the top (where there are blue sacks and brown plastic pots), is another bare space with an olive tree planter behind.

I like it bare but you could have a chair in the shade and a small table. It looks a peaceful place to relax. I don't think the small cluster of pot plants suits the space. If you want to have a plant there get something on a much larger scale in a huge pot.

I think your idea of more plants is a good one. It will soften all the paving. However, rather than have one pot on each step, I would group them all at the top of the steps together. It will have more impact. I think a larger plant as Isla suggests would also green up the space a bit more. As long as you don’t watering them every day or so, of course! A big heavy pot will also have less chance of blowing over in the wind. Is this your only outside space or is there more elsewhere?

Thanks everyone, some great ideas here. I think I'm going to go for a big modern lamp, although the idea of a Tiffany lamp has me thinking. Adding a bold bit of colour. I won't go for a table as I think I've got too much oak and furniture in the room. Had looked at a corner unit and there are some fantastic ones around. But again it's another piece of furniture. I'm not discounting the plant idea either but will decide in the next few days. It's just strange having two sofas instead of the corner unit. I'm going to start by taking down the curtains and getting lighter ones. Will post a picture when I've finished. Thanks for all your input, it's helped a great deal. X

Hi Jenny. Why not keep it simple to go with the table so something like this but maybe a simple scandi fern print or something rather than just the frame.cox and cox have a number of vases that would suit plus faux stems or try oka, Neptune or Abigail ahern for the stems but would keep them simple. I'd try and marry the other objects in some way ie colour, style, material, shape etc. I also have a chair on my landing and I have to say it does get used! Hopefully you have another spare corner.

Hi Sonal, for me it’s the wallpaper. It is far too busy, especially with all the accessories. I would tone it down maybe with a nice navy. Although it’s a dark shade, it is very calming. Now ideally you would remove the wallpaper, there isn’t much of it so not too much effort. You could paint over the wallpaper but I’m not sure of the finish. You could then introduce more navy into the room with cushions and a cosy throw. This sort of thing

Is the chimney Brest hollow? Could you move the tv onto the wall to the left of the fire place? This would mean pulling the wires from your Aerial through the walls of the chimney but would look very tidy as you wouldn’t be able to see them in the new position. You can then pop the sofa where the tv is and put the chair where your sofa is or even get another sofa as you would have the space. Then the arch space could be built in storage that could hold everything that’s currently in the tv unit? There are some lovely arch cabinetry ideas I have screen shotted for you. No this is not the only outdoor space, we have a side garden and the back too. My only issue is that visually it lacks something.

I love these pots in the picture, but the larger ones would overpower the myrtus that would be behind them

Adding some greenery to the empty corner could indeed help soften the expanse of tile and stone, creating a more inviting and balanced outdoor space. You might also consider some permanent fixtures like a small statue or a wind-resistant shrub that ties in with the existing Myrtus planter if you don't want to opt for a larger, heavier pot.

For the area on the right at the top, since it also appears quite bare and has an olive tree nearby, perhaps a couple of matching pots or as Isla said, a bench or some seating could unify the space and provide both aesthetic appeal and functional seating.

After reading your comments, and thanks by the way, I concluded I should leave the pots out (you've convinced me), until something that fits comes my way - a larger pot with a shrub perhaps. We also love the idea of the bench - I'll be on the lookout for a suitable one :) thanks for the different perspective everyone!
