Kitchen layout ideas

Hi Houzz community!
I'm looking for a bit of inspiration. I've recently moved into a new house which me and my family love. We've been busy decorating and settling in.
The one thing we can't figure out a way forward with is the kitchen.
Before moving in, we had ideas about opening up parts of the downstairs and having more of an open plan. But, having lived here for 6 months now, we've enjoyed having closed off spaces, particularly with having two little toddlers. Sometimes it's nice to enclose them!
That said, we aren't happy with the kitchen layout at all. It's fairly narrow but the biggest problem is the lack of a run of wall units/worktop. As you can see from the pics, there are 3 doors to this kitchen. There's a boiler in the corner (bottom left on the hand drawn plan). There's been an extension built at some point and so the frame is there, down as dotted lines on my sketch.
The sink feels like it's too far into a corner, and since the cooker and fridge are over there as well, we spend 90% of our time in one small corner of the kitchen.
We had a load of ideas all linked in with opening up the floorplan but no longer want to do that. But we are open to the idea of getting rid of the little downstairs loo that's down on the right hand side on my sketch. That has a tiny hallway and a door through to the lounge, which really doesn't need it. So we would be up for knocking that all down and filling that door to the lounge in.
What we're looking for is a more functional space that works for a young family and will see us through a lot more years, as we're planning on staying in this house "forever".
P.S. excuse the mess and laundry!! We had just moved in when I took the photos and still in a bit of a mess!

I think families need a laundry, somewhere to store pushchairs and a a downstairs wc. So I would do this

Please do not remove the downstairs loo. Not sure how old your little ones are but it will be a bonus when toilet training, and for older visitors, or yourselves in the future, who struggle with stairs. I see what you mean that all the kitchen appliances are stuck in that one corner which must be so annoying. I’m rubbish at drawings but I love Jonathan’s kitchen layout where everything is nicely spaced out with plenty of work space.

I have a similar layout on a project I did recently, take a look at my page with Rogers-Bexhill there is a large L-Shape with Island and the door is situated in a similar position. Hi I was wondering whether I can have some advice on our kitchen layout. We planned to get our sunroom converted to an extension. Unfo Unfortunatel, we got let down by the contractors we hired who turned out to be professional scammers! Lots of tears and 6 months later, we are ready to get our kitchen done again but leaving the sunroom as is for now. How would you maximise the space? bearing in mind we are ok with the dining table being in the sunroom f. looking forward to all your suggestions! thank you these are suggestions we have received from a builder (just keeping all the units in the ”kitchen” space) : would love a kitchen island, if not a breakfast bar and plenty cupboard space. thanks in advance

I think the utility planned on design 2 is a counterintuitive idea. Why extend a space only to split it in two again? In my opinion and will isolate the middle room, divide the house in half and devalue your efforts to make it bigger. Given your bathroom is spacious I would put the washing machine upstairs but you could also leave the washer in the kitchen and if concerned about noise intrusion just put it on when you leave for work. And if your music is important to you then why not have the front room as a music room/ living space and the open the middle room up to the largest room at the back?

Hi all. Looking to make better use of our ground floor configuration whilst also having a new kitchen. Below is the latest architect drawing and just suggestion for kitchen layout. We had originally planned to chop into garage but budget will not allow it so need to make best use of the existing kitchen space. We do want a peninsula for three but aside from that open to ideas. Yes Sonia our kids are coming up to 2 and 4 so the downstairs loo gets used a fair bit and if we get rid of it I'd want to move it rather than lose it.

I love the layout idea Jonathan and it's similar to something I was thinking about originally, before moving in, but at the time we decided to try and minimise the amount of work / disruption to other rooms. Definitely something to consider though!

I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a soil pipe under the long through lounge so a new wc may be quite possiblr

What about layout options without reconfiguring any interior walls, other than the wall between the kitchen and downstairs WC? It would be good to see if there's a way of improving the kitchen layout without interfering with the rest of the downstairs, or at least doing so as little as possible.

I'd thought about changing the back door and windows to rethink the kitchen layout. Possibly move the door through from the kitchen to the hallway (heading towards the WC) to somewhere else along that wall (where the cooker currently is) to give more chance of a run of wall units. Don't want to lose the downstairs WC but open to moving it, reconfiguring it, changing layout etc.

There's just so many things to consider and we're trying to find a way of getting what we want without destroying half the house for the next 6 months 😂

Just to add that if you were to first divide the long through lounge and create a utility and wc you would have useful spaces while the main kitchen gets renovated

What if, you -

Closed off door between WC & reception room

Built an internal wall to the left of the window over sink to create a utility plus downstairs loo & shower room. Shower is useful even if you already have 2 bathrooms upstairs, for visitors / washing muddy dogs / kids after football. And we know theres a soil pipe & plumbing there.

There should be room in the utility for washing machine, freezer & storage

That then gives less clutter in the kitchen and a squarer room for cooking and family / breakfast eating in without too much expense.

And the option further down the line of knocking through to the back half of the long reception room to create a large kitchen / diner / living space with that bay window.
