Bedroom with mansard roof - Advice needed
We bought a new barn conversion house but the mansard roof angles in the bedroom are really throwing me in terms of room design and colour!!
I am bringing our velvet dark blue bed with me but will start fresh with everything else. I’m aiming for a bold colour or wall paper print to give it a more contemporary and modern to contrast with the rustic vibe of the house
I’d love to hear some ideas on room layout and colour/wallpaper ideas.

Comments (1)Clara, There is lots to consider when decorating a room or deciding on colour. The number of windows is one of them but we would also take into account the light that comes into those rooms (is it northern light, south light, is it cold or warm), when do you use the room? what artificial light is there? what are your colour prefrences? what items are you placing in the room?.. the list goes on. By thinking about all of these elements individually, we can create a space that is right for you and use colours that work and are functional with the surroundings. For that reason I would always suggest seeking advise from a professional interior designer or colour consultant (we are available for a chat if you would like). If you choose to look at colours yourself, remember to paint your samples onto lining paper and tape to each of your walls, leaving on each wall for 24 to 48 hours, this will allow you to view it in all lights and at all times of the day. It is easy to say a colour looks great when you purchase it on a saturday morning but after painting you realise your only ever use the space in the evening light and it changes the look completely. Comments (14)What a pretty room! How ornate do you want to go? How about a dado rail and panelling (look up "faux wainscoting" for a budget friendly DIY solution) in the same colour as the door frames and skirting, to go really old school and elegant? That sort of look suits a statement armchair perched in a corner. As others have said, that floral wallpaper/fabric is great in a bedroom (I think). In an adult bedroom, I'd go a bit nuts with this stuff, frankly. Easy enough to change if you decide to tone it down a bit. If you do it above some classic panelling, it would ameliorate the look. Otherwise, perhaps cool rustic luxury. Matt black lamps, brass, white marble, a stripped brick internal wall (messy but cheap to do). By the way, I am exactly in the same boat as you. We are just finishing the renovation of a Victorian house, and our master suite is the bit that needs to be finished. If it helps, I am genuinely torn between the two looks below. My wife prefers option one - she is a US east coaster, used to funky lofts and DC/NY chic. Comments (10)In our loft conversion we have a D shaped rigid one piece bath under the eaves. It is centred under a dormer window so that when you climb out there is no problem with height. I think it is a good use of a tricky space. Comments (6)Hi Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. Definitely food for thought! I've not got photos of the roof at the moment but we are going for a second viewing on Saturday so I'll take some then. In the meantime I've attached some of the pictures from the listing. Our favourite parts of the house are the original bits - the kitchen and lounge so I think opening up between the kitchen and lounge to create a kitchen/diner living space as Steph initially suggested would be good if its possible to remove the wall?! I think there would then be space for the dining room to be divided to provide a hall with perhaps utility storage adjacent to the bathroom and the extra bedroom we need. I've had a play around with the existing floorplan and come up with this - any comments (glaring obvious things I've missed!) would be so helpful. Once again, thanks!! 2 years agoYou have quite a lot of odd angles to take into account with the window recessed and mansard roof. You say you would like wallpaper - have you considered it ALL over. This is a technique used quite often in attic spaces with awkward angles as it draws your eye to the pattern and away from the awkward angles. These may not be to your taste pattern wise but they give you the general idea - what do you think?

2 years agoI’m not that into wallpaper, it’s just a bit too fussy for me, but I know lots of people love it. I would go with a very simple look of white walls and ceiling, a lovely rug and grey or taupe furnishings. Similar to the picture below. I’m not sure how your blue bed would tie in with it, but I assume only the headboard will be seen?
