A thin black metal shelving unit. 600mm square might fit if you move the sofa forward. I think the open gap looks better though. Could you store your bags somewhere else? If you could post a larger pic of the whole area you will get better advice, its difficult to suggest anything when you can only see a tiny portion of the room.

Looking at the whole area now I would try to store your bags somewhere else. That large sofa fills quite a lot of space. You need a gap to balance it. If you go for steel storage then try to find something with a thinner profile as it will appear lighter. Could you attach a shelf for your bags to the side of the kitchen unit? Just a thought. I like your table and chairs. Black steel could definitely work there. I looked at the unit you proposed but its quite dominant.

Yes agreed… i’ll opt to place a clock there in the gap and avoid a black shelving unit cant seem to find the right one . and we‘re not people of many ornamenets!

As Isla says, your sofa needs space around it and squeezing another shelving unit into that gap wouldn’t help.

The large unit you already have to the left of your sofa is dominating the room and reducing the feeling of light and space so I’m wondering if you’d consider removing it and placing a large, wooden console table that fits in the alcove. You could choose one with a shelf underneath and place baskets on the shelf that you could put your bags in.

A sideboard would also look good in the alcove and would offer more storage but I doubt if there would be enough space to open the sideboard doors as it’s quite close to the sofa.

Would you recommend going for a clock to hang in the gap (circle) and pictures on top of the sofa ? or leave the gap between sofa and side of the fridge empty ?

I would pull sofa away from the wall a little, and put a slimline console table ( some great ones on Amazon.

And maybe a lamp, and a very large picture or (picture gallery) above.

And put a tall plant in a slimline planter in that corner, with a battery operated up light.

You firstly asked for somewhere to store handbags. My everyday bag is slid between and sofa and the side table. Another place you can try is on hallway pegs, assuming you have them. To decorate the sofa area try a floor lamp on the right, or a table lamp on a table in that corner, then a nice big piece of art above the sofa.

Personally I think you should use that tight corner for a table and lamp.

Then I would try to find a console that is the same height as the sofa cushions and place it backing onto the sofa side cushions

Why don’t you move the cabinet thing to the right side of the picture so that the cabinet is next to the fridge facing inward towards the settees, you would then have a space (where the cabinet was originally) to place a small cupboard for your bags etc and pull the settee away from the wall and place a console table behind the settee, you have no idea how useful console tables can be dressed with lamps and or plants.
