What would you do with this fire and living room?
Comments (3)Can't seem to add a picture. The room is roughly 16 feet by 11 feet. It has a warm cream carpet (quite new) and a fake, shallow chimney breast about 2/3 down the long wall. The opposite wall is bare with a radiator underneath a window on one side. There are double doors on one short wall to the hall and double doors to a conservatory on the other short wall. Currently the fireplace is gas with a rounded stone surround. We are thinking about a light stone mantel with a black stone hearth, and a black stove, with all that set on a deeper and slightly wider chimney breast. White bookcases built in either side with doors on the front. Thoughts?...See MoreWhat to put on living room wall?
Comments (9)Hi Robin, Lovely room - I love the wall colour and bookcase! How much of the bookcase does the leather sofa block? I used to have a sofa against a bookshelf and while I grew used to it it did annoy me a bit with the wasted/hard to access shelf space! You could rearrange the furniture in the room so that the leather sofa had its back to the radiator and the seating area was in more of an L-shape rather than with the sofas opposite each other, and then put a rug/layered rugs down (which always looks nice on floorboards, at least I think!). In terms of what to do above the fireplace - I like the idea of hanging a big artwork, or photographs, or you could hang a large mirror, or both a mirror and artwork!...See MoreHow would you furnish this awkward living room/dining room/kitchen
Comments (7)Hi. Personally I'd put a slatted room divider (just the unit width) at the end of the sink run to allow light and zone the kitchen area slightly. (I will try and find a picture showing the same in a similar kitchen). Assuming the fridge isn't staying, I'd just buy a white one so it blends in, maybe like a retro style one as they look a bit prettier. I'd also opt for a round table. You could paint the wall (and rad) behind the table a darker/warmer colour and add art. Hang the light low over the table to zone it and maybe have a mirror or mirror tiles on the left wall. You could also consider acrylic chairs as they don't visually fill the space. I'd go for a wider curtain pole to maximise light coming in. Sofa, choose something on legs with narrow arms, being able to see the floor will make the room bigger and maximise seating. I also wouldn't choose anything dark as it could take over the room, just use dark/warm colours for cushions and throw if wanted. There are plug in wall lights around which won't take up any floor space. I don't know if you need storage but you should be able to fit a sideboard between the dining and living area? Re shopping suggestions, you don't have any ideabooks set up so could you give people an idea of styles and colours you like?...See MoreWhat should we put along this fence?
Comments (12)Hello folks. Thank you for your replies. Its private land. We live on an Estate. We do have lots of big trees around us and wouldn't want to block the beautiful view. We have 2 little apple trees that have such lovely blossom at the moment. We nearly went with Leylandil to hedge all the way round but glad we didn't due to its reputation and problems we would probably get. What we had in mind was something that would grow in and on the fence but no higher and to block the dogs (we have 2 huge dogs) view. Like a screen. We wanted something that smells nice as we are going to try and make this area into a relaxing dining area eventually so sweet smells would be lovely of an evening. The fenced off part is our garden which is just under an acre but very big, boring and a huge task to landscape. We have tried planting some flowers Lupins, Roses, a Magnolia Tree etc but the dogs have crushed some of the Lupins. You might just see them in the picture I attached. We are going to stop with the plants and go for the fence climbers. Eventually all the way round. I put some pics up of what we have to deal with landscaping wise. Alot of work to do. Its only windy in Autumn and Winter. We have bought some Jasmins and Clematis for some of the fence. Love the yellow ones. You live somewhere really beautiful but it does look windy there. Probably alot more windy than here by the looks of it. I have never seen those before. I will most definitely try out a few along the fence somewhere. Thank you. Lots of things keep changing while trying to do this garden and its been quite expensive trying it out but fun and we will carry on. I think what we're looking for is a hardy beautiful fragrant fast fence climber that will block the fence part but not above it that can handle some wind and lots of sun all day 😁...See MoreJuliet Docherty
