Shade needed - how?
Hello
i would like something to provide shade to the patio where bifolds are that will ideally not require lots of structure to be built in the middle of the grass (garden isnt huge).
bifolds are 3m long
single brick wall so awening is tricky.
1. awening - i believe not possible as we have that beown cladding over bifolds :(
2. sail- any idea on shade and whether its easy to install myself?
3. pergola - i dont like the idea of permanent structure…
We got quotes for awening which woukd require building ”goal post” around bifolds but £12k!
Sail quote was £6k that sounds excessive?

The trick would be to alter the front, making it more modern and in keeping with your new extension. 1. Replace the windows with more modern ones like at the rear. 2 years agoHow about natural shade from a tree or two? Nothing cooler than sitting under a tree and they create dappled shade onto the patio and into the house. You could plant a couple of trees in the lawn, nothing too big so maybe a Hawthorn, Crabapple or Dwarf Apple trees. You say you want shade indoors so they are specific blinds for bifolds that could be an option, but then you say you want to shade the patio?

2 years agoWe got these blinds on ours to keep the heat out of the south facing kitchen - Click Fit I think. I think it was about £500 for 3 panes. (Couple of years ago)

PRO2 years agoHi Ewa,
you have a few options.
one things to keep in mind is if you build something more permanent, is to still allow light inside the house. So having a slated cover provides shade but still lets light inside and it also add an architectural element.
Another option is to have something that is retractable. like a good awning or a pull fabric system ( see images bellow)
These two options could also provide some shelter against rain.
