bathroom layout advice

We have plans to add an extra bedroom with en-suite to the back of our 1930's semi, building on top of the extended kitchen..This will involve taking some of our original bathroom for the extended landing into new room. We are extending to the side slightly to make room for the new en-suite and to get the footprint back for the main bathroom to make up the lost space used for landing. Any thoughts on the new family bathroom layout please?? I would like to have a shower without any glass doors if possible to cut down on the cleaning!!

Please provide a floorplan with dimensions and some pics of the current space. You could possibly have a wet room if it is planned properly. No shower screen to clean then. The only issue with that is that if you don't have enough space the basin and toilet might get soaked everytime the shower is used. A hand shower greatly cuts down on water everywhere when showering. It is far more accurate when washing your hair for instance than the overhead fitting. Need to see a plan first. A lot of people squeegee the shower door/enclosure everytime they use it. This cuts the cleaning down to an absolute minimum. You can buy shower cleaning blades everywhere now and there are some lovely subtle designer ones too.

I think the aperture between the two spaces is too restrictive and although I understand that it would be prohibitively expensive to take out the corner of the original house I’m confident making the aperture bigger shouldn’t break the bank- and you can put and structural steel above the ceiling too.

Separately I worry about the size of the extra bedroom- there is no room for wardrobes and you can’t even open the door inwards- I think you should find somewhere else for an extra Ensuite.

If you're thinking of sticking with a freestanding bath with no screen or curtain around the shower, you are still creating a wet room. If that's what you want and you have the budget for it, it could work - but as I mentioned earlier wet rooms are expensive as you have to tank the room (as far as I understand it). I also personally don't like them because a lot of the floor gets wet and there are splashes everywhere - more cleaning and it's difficult to get dry! Maybe I've only experienced badly designed ones though... The other option would be to have a normal bath (not freestanding) with a screen, or a freestanding one with a screen or curtain (if you google you'll see a few examples). You can get clawfoot rolltop baths which look freestanding on the visible side but are actually fitted against the wall so that you can have a shower above them.

I think your instincts are right and this room is too small for the laundry as well as a bath and shower. I think if you want a jet bath it will be at least 800 wide. If you then have a 700 toilet opposite there will only be 450mm for knees which is not enough. A space saver toilet might help but I still think it will be undersized. Furthermore the wall against the stairs will be tight for everything you want to fit in. If it were me I would prioritise a shower. Even with a laundry in there this could be an amazing shower room - I would then resolve to make sure that every time you go away you book a room with a tub. If you need the bath for toddlers then you should consider an oversized bath with a super shower over it

Thanks for the comments. We combined the bathroom and toilet as they were previously separated by knocking through the wall and created a master bathroom, the main part of our plan. We have a single separate toilet downstairs. Gini's design, while it looks clean had 2 flaws (for us) in that there was no cupboard and where the shower is placed it really overshoots the window so that would've felt really boxed in and closed down that space by reducing the window size (I think my measurements were on the wrong walls, 2400 across the window wall). And a bidet... Just no 😂
