Hello, From a tiling point of view, natural stone and porcelain tiles work brilliantly with underfloor heating! Natural stone particularly holds the heat well, so will stay warm even after the heating has been turned off. A lot of our customers are opting for underfloor heating. We would always recommend employing a professional tiler to lay the floor, and ensure you use flexible adhesive and grout to lay the tiles, so there's a bit of flex as the floor heats up and cools down. You can also use decoupling membrane, which again allows for movement in the floor, and stops any cracks appearing in the tiles. You also need to make sure you turn the heating up gradually once the floor has been tiled, so you don't 'shock' the tiles causing them to crack. Another thing to bear in mind, is the depth of the floor as you go between rooms, carpet is going to be thinner than tiles or wood so you don't want any strange steps between rooms! Well, still nothing to report, and we are absolutely no further forward on deciding the paint colours. Last night I went into Homebase after work yet again for a couple more testers - put them up, nahhhhh. This hallway has been a complete nightmare from start to finish and I wish that we'd left it well alone. I suppose in the long-run it'll be worth it, but I'm finding it really hard to muster up any enthusiasm on it now - it's been dragging on for months. @OnePlan: Yeah, I would consider laying the stair runner myself for sure, it's not the laying that was the issue, it was the fact it'd been cut wrong that's the problem, and it looked stupid. However, at the moment, the sooner this room is done the better, I just want to see the back of it, so as the carpet place do the service, I'll happily pay a professional to do it in an afternoon, rather than me spending any more time on it. Also, I have a terrible terrible habit of injuring myself whenever I come into contact with Carpet Grippers. No matter how long or short, removing them from the floor, moving them from the floor to the rubbish container, or even from the rubbish container into the dustbin - my hands always look like I've been attacked with a cheese grater. Seriously, I am 100% certain, that at some point in time when carpet grippers are involved I will need a plaster! @Carolina: Oh don't you worry about that, I've got some scrap paper and a head-full of ideas. Hi, I have severe chemical allergies (like 20-27% of the population), including to VOCs/all fragrances/botanicals/essential oils/many woods (i.e. especially allergic to: oxidised limonene & oxidised linalool), also chrome, nickel, and colophony/rosin (in terms of any direct skin contact to many glues/sealants). The VOC content is much lower in oak and ash woods (and at a pinch, beech), so I am fine with these if they have been kiln dried or I allow them to offgas first for 6-8 weeks before use / being in the same room as them. Other woods are unsafe for me (eg pine, cedar), as these contain high levels of oxidsed limonene. Emerging medical & scientific research seems to suggest that a high overall toxic burden in the body may be a significant if not predominant contributing cause to chemical allergies, including particularly cumulative and ongoing exposure to PFAS / flame retardants / toxic forever chemicals. Accordingly, I'm looking to replace household goods with ones without any: PFAS / toxic forever chemicals / flame retardants / Teflon / flame retardant-infused interliners. Keen to hear any brand recommendations in the UK (or importable from Europe) accordingly for: - Sofas / armchairs (the toughest to find safe alternatives for!!): Eg. Eco Sofa, Bespoke 180 degrees, any others in the UK.......??? Do you know of any PFAS & interliner-free, only natural materials, sofa brands in Europe which I might be able to buy for shipment to the UK (or buy in Europe and personally have shipped to the UK)? Which European countries most prohibit these, or in which European countries am I likely to be able to get the most information around products explicitly omitting these? - Mattresses (eg. Warren Evans, Button & Sprung, Snoozel Green (??), Cotton Safe, ... any others?) - Irons / Garment steamers (Philip's products appear to be full of them in the soleplates, and the company was very shady and evasive about this too). Any safe eg. Stainless steel soleplate ones anyone can confirm are free of all PFAS including internally? - Carpets: any natural fibre brands (eg pure wool) confirmed not to have any coatings/scotchguard treatments, also without PFAS in the backing? - Carpet underlay: Any brands without PFAS at all (does "Breathe" omit all PFAS? Any recommended custom manufacturers who do the same? - Paints: I've already found safe solutions here, but for anyone else looking: Lakeland Paints, Little Knights, and Nordfarg are the only VOC-free UK paint brands I could find. Lakeland Paints also does colour matching brilliantly and has excellent customer service. Any brand recommendations in the above areas would be hugely appreciated!! :)))
