This is what the exterior looks like so far. We have been approved planning permission to extend single storey, front and side With sky lantern. we are set on a flat roof with wildflower and sedum. Considering keeping the tiles. front door will be moved forward and there will be a window on the left. Not sure what the new render should be for the extension? Brick ? Trying to keep all costs down but Still have a Clean and contemporary finish...... I realise now I should have been braver with the windows! Tut tut!!!

Personally i'd say, if you're going to such lengths with a new garage, extension possibly the porch etc, which is a lot. I would render the whole front of the house and garage to tie the whole project together. However, you can't see much of the brick of the garage on the front, just the piers. Looking closely at them, I think the garage brick was slightly different to the main house and wonder if it was already an addition? Also, if you look at the bricks above the line of where the garage has come down, the top bricks are a different colour to the bottom. So 1, 2 & 3 are all different colour bricks. 1 and 2 are very similar, but to me there is a subtle difference as 1 doesn't contain any darker bricks and is very slightly brighter red.

This period was great as they were often really well designed internally. We've worked on several houses like this for clients and we usually advise that its best to respect the period. We agree that that keeping the hanging tile is a very sensible idea, but you could change the plastic windows to timber composite windows and doors that can be designed to echo the period. We used to do a lot of grey even black frames, but nowadays we often do white because it says 'house' and it always works with the interior.

I think this house looks great. For me the porch looks fine and just needs a new front door. The window style will depend on the look you are finally going for and personally I think you need to consider the housing stock nearby for inspiration. The only think I would look at changing is the two downstairs windows…. In my opinion I think you should be looking to either replace them with one window or two smaller ones. And separately the landscaping has been forgotten for a while and creating a wide sweeping drive to the front door and some tidier planting will do wonders
