Ideas for garden steps please
Comments (14)I'd looked for glass too but without any success for off the shelf. There are a number of bespoke makers so may be worth getting a quote just to see? a possible solution is to step onto a platform and then have steps down either side of the windows (drainpipe would need to be moved but should be a lot cheaper than bespoke stairs). It's difficult to tell without seeing the whole of the house but could be worth looking at. I'd sketch it out though to check it doesn't look odd!...See MoreBuilders Quotations
Comments (6)It does seem on the high side based on my experience of doing something similar to you but for a space of approx 45m2. I am just outside SW London so prices might be cheaper but only slightly. How many quotes have you had? I ended up getting 5 ballpark quotes and found one was ridiculously low, the other quite high and the remaining 3 all roughly the same. If you have had a few all come in at £70k I would work with your top 2 preferred to dig into the budget a little more and to understand why this seems to be on the higher side. You will need to understand your budget in detail eventually anyway so understanding how your builder sees the costs built up may help you to identify areas for savings if that's what you are hoping to do. Otherwise it will hopefully help you to see what added value you might be getting for what initially seems like a higher price. Consider looking at different types of companies too - smaller local builders through to some of the larger design & build firms. Good luck!...See MoreSeparating Driveway From Next Door
Comments (11)It's not shared access, its just a split level rear access, he has a path that goes up the centre of his lawned area. The picture is deceiving but the level between mine and his front area only matches once you come slightly down the drive. The level on my side of the side access has always been about a foot higher. I like the idea of taller planters, i just need to find some large enough and in keeping with the "look" of the house i guess. So my options are planters that are taller, or remove some of the driveway blocks and put a short fence or wall in. Would a wall be a better option? i'm only talking a couple of feet high at most. Perhaps easier to have a low brick wall put in? i love the stuff these guys do but not sure how i could make them work LINK...See MoreWhat's next after building regulation approval?
Comments (2)It’s a good question. We had the specification for our extension drawn up by the firm which did the design/architectural work. This has all the detail you seek, such as where the light switches go, what bricks, type of plastering, where plumbing should go and what type etc, etc. It was drawn up with our input so is just what we want. We’ve decided to manage the project ourselves, given my husband is retired and very capable on that kind of thing, so we simply sent the spec to builders for quotes. Angie...See More- last year
