I’m more of a handleless person so contemporary in choice but out of the 2 you have suggested I would opt for the traditional shaker as opposed to the curved bead.

We’ve gone for a shaker without any joints.

Shaker is much more difficult to keep clean than a slab front and I used to sell them! We had a lot of customers come in and say that they were looking for a much cleaner look now. The company that I worked for now does a plain flat front slab door in wood as well as the Shaker and traditional shaker style with beading. Think about your lifestyle. Everyone is different with regard to cleaning. I like shaker style in a large kitchen preferably in a period house but in smaller kitchens the door fronts with the post and rail makeup as well as the double lines created by in-frame can make it look very fussy. We only sold in-frame. Layon door cover the whole open cabinet front.

If you are considering a [painted] timber shaker door than there will be a step between the outer frame and the centre panel ie the dust trap, but you can have these with either beading or some can have an angled chamfer to the inner frame [I have the Marpatt Monarch door which has this chamfer] and you don't have a dust trap, its also a more subtle look than the beading IMO. Alternatively though, you can also have vinyl wrapped shaker doors, these are made from 1 piece mdf and cnc machined to look like a shaker door and then wrapped in a coloured vinyl, usually a matt foil but now also the supermatt anti fingerprint, scratch resistant coloured foils. So these doors are just a simple wipe down without any tight corners and they are cheaper than a timber painted shaker door.
