Comments (16)An L shaped design sounds fine to me and I think it's practicality will outweigh concerns about it dominating. I agree a soft white is nicer in an older property and a more modern look than gloss but I don't agree that a painted finish is better with young ones as it can chip- I would look for a laminate door which despite being perceived to be lower quality will likely stand up to rough treatment...See MoreFREE design consultations available at designjunction!

Comments (15)Hi Sue, Congradulations on your new home. I believe that you can make a good place if you involve specialists. When we start a project for an existing house we recommend to do a construction audit of the building. That will help you to know what changes you can do with your house. For example, you decide to update facades and you will be sure that you can use any materials. The same situation with a new stairs, windows etc. As for the project. We usually offer these steps: 1. Zoning and planning. On this stage you will see how all the rooms will be located; 2. Concept idea for a new interior design and facades (if applicable). We prepare 3D photorealistic visualizations; 3. Preparetion of project documentation and choosing of the materials in accordance with the concept; 4. Preparetion of the detailed construction documentation that will help your builders to make real the idea of your new home. You can see some of our projects on this page (we are a Russian team): https://www.houzz.co.uk/pro/olarchitects-project/olarchitects Please, contact me if you have any questions....See MoreWhich kitchen layout? Awkward shaped kitchen!
Comments (10)Thank you for all the comments! I really appreciate it. It’s great to have other inspiration to play around with. I’m not actually planning on using Wrens but their 3D virtual reality mock up is very useful! I spent the day playing around with different ideas, using cardboard in the space to mock things up, including tall units! The problem is the width of the kitchen isn’t huge so full depth units facing each other becomes a problem. I might have settled on a layout that wasn’t in my original sketches - I’m going to take it to a designer to see what they think. The only awkward bit about this design is there would be an appliance (probably the freezer) in the corner under the breakfast bar, so the only access would be from the lounge/dining side. My parents are wondering if I need the 300mm breakfast bar overhang, but I think that if I have units across the entrance to the kitchen like that, I’ll naturally want to use it as a breakfast bar and will be annoyed if it isn’t comfortable to sit at.. here’s my 3D app mock up of the space (not a professional mock up!!)...See More- last year
