Hi Chloe, I can see it is hard to work with that shape! Some questions for you, do you use both the external doors or do you favour one over the other? What is the unit on the plan next to the left hand doorway?
Do you use the snug for watching tv or is it just an area to hang out in whilst people are cooking? How many in the household and do you often entertain? Does the kitchen layout work for you at the moment, if not what would you change? Some pictures would be helpful just to get an idea of scale for the ‘thin end!’ Of the wedge.

Thanks so much for getting back to me!

My husband has just reminded me that the floor plan I shared was actually outdated ,the door you mentioned has since been blocked up 🙈

The snug was originally set up because we had a spare sofa and weren’t quite sure how to make use of the space. Ideally, we’d love it to be a cosy spot for guests to hang out, especially when we’re hosting and busy in the kitchen.

We’re also planning to redo the kitchen eventually, as the central area feels quite spacious ,we’re thinking of adding a peninsula or island to make better use of it.

We’re hoping to get a larger dining table too, but we’re a bit stuck on how best to place it given the current layout.

Thanks so much, Chloe totally agree ☝️. The rug was actually just a spare one we already had, so we can definitely size up! The house was previously rented out as an HMO, which explains the current white wall aesthetic. Really appreciate your tips, we’d definitely be up for changing the wall colour, but that’ll likely be something we do when we redesign the kitchen, probably in around five years.

Thank you Katlucy and Jonathan for reworking the layout! It’s amazing how much it improves the flow of the space, something we hadn’t even thought of!

That said, since we’re not planning to update the kitchen any time soon, this new layout will probably have to wait until then 😞

We're probably a few years away from being able to entirely re-do the kitchen. Do you think there's some smaller incremental changes we can do in the meantime?

If you are not lookingbto change the kitchen you should consider the following:

Buy two additional tall kitcgen cabinets for storage- there is no need to see mops in this room.

Buy two new ceiling pendants- one to replace the one over the coffee table and then add one over the dining table. The pendant should hang lower than your current light.

Buy two person sized house plants.

Change the sofa position so it is facing the wall with the two wall lights- then put a TV between the lights.

If you are buying a bigger table a round one will suit this room.

The open shelves look a little temporary and shoukd perhaps go. Instead what about a lowboard under the TV?

Table lights each side of the sofa are easier to live with than a ceiling light.

once you have decided on soft furnishings like a rug then pick a colour for the walls- I would favour a stone colour.
