We would like to renovate our kitchen ideally we would love a large kitchen island and need to have a utility room family room and separate adult lounge. Really struggling to visualise what we could do. Help with layout would be appreciated!
"...Really struggling to visualise what we could do..." is a good point. Even experienced designers and builders, though they can visualise much better due to their line of work, can't know for sure if it will look good at the end or not. That's why 3D model can reveal everything. In the instance you'll see if you like it or not. And you won't have to convince yourself that it looks good because you've chosen such nice finishes and spent so much money...
So what do you do?
You can hire someone to do a 3D visualization for you or you can ask here for an advice. A lot of very competent people here and they can give you lots of ideas, but lots of advice can bamboozle you and you can find yourself back in square one confused which idea will look the best. I did knock up some simple 3D for few people up on this forum hoping that they will see the value in it and hire me to do a proper job for them, but at the end - you get "thank you very much" and the hour you've just spent out of your time and expertise goes up in smoke. So i have to restrain myself wanting to help, because I have bills to pay too.
Well, good luck with your project. My advice: there isn't a better way then seeing it in 3d picture perfect. You can play with the finishes, layouts, colours, lighting, shapes and sizes to get exactly what you want and save yourself from making costly mistakes.
I've found this quite useful to help bring to life my ideas in 3d, simple enough for newbies to pick up and can get quite fun redesigning rooms and layouts (you get 2 free rooms on sign up)
I use it to bring to life an idea and then i'll seek a professional for approx cost/regulations, this helps start the conversation and it's taken it from a flat 2d picture to somewhere i can picture living in.
@sam absolutely, I've done house building for 10 years in management capacity and 25 in the industry overall, after getting designer qualifications it hasn't been the same. There's no substitute for it - you can write pages of advice and still the picture in your mind will be blurry. You do a 3D and you can see instantly if it looks good or not or any changes needed.
If it's only about changing curtains and wall colour and stuff like that, then it's plenty sufficient for that, but if building alterations needed, bespoke furniture, ergonomics or artisan carpentry, then easier to give it to a company that has all these integrated in their service.
