Small Bathroom advice

Hi,

I currently have plans for the bathroom but wouldn't mind some ideas on colour scheme.

I am quite favoured on single floor/wall tile colour, natural stone porcelain.

Essen Bone Topps tiles is about where we are at there.

Another idea is to do a feature panel on the back wall near the toilet in a wood clad, or would that be overbearing?.

FOr such a small cubby bathroom it's a....dillema!

I've just done three bathrooms. The issue I had was that previously they were choppy and jarring with black and white everywhere. I decided that if I could create sightlines that simplified the spaces that would help. In addition, as they are small spaces I opted for similar colours but varied the textures. This is one bathroom and the other image is the tiles in the shower room. All tiles Mandarin Stone, grout colours matched to tiles. Lights were Collingwood Deco.

Any considerations on tile size increasing feel of size? The top pic looks like 60x60.

What tiles are they btw in pic one?

Hi John, yes this is a small room but there is a lot you can do to avoid it looking cramped and still make it practical. The layout you've suggested is perfect. The 1500mm bath is a good idea but you can also get extra deep ones this length which could give you a little more coverage for want of a better phrase! I see you've gone for a narrow basin - also good. I'd go for a pedestal rather than a vanity to give more floor space and put a cupboard with a mirror above it for storage. If there's a window in the way put it above the loo. Get a narrow toilet too so you have space for a loo brush and bin and can still get in behind it to clean. Put your towel rad on the wall at the end of the bath opposite the shower assuming you're having one. And go for a curtain instead of a screen so when it's pulled Back it opens up the room. Keep the tiling light and go for large tiles with pale grout. I've attached a link to a bathroom I did the same size. Hi everybody, thanks for all your suggestions. Both Lauren's and Whizywig's look really interesting. I don't think the door move would work in this case though - see below for the space around the room. I really liked the idea of a sort of 'wet room' shower by the bathroom and had suggested that myself to somebody in a bathroom showroom. But I was advised that wet rooms can actually be a pain, because water does spray about the bathroom and in a confined space, that turns our to be really annoying (apparently). I was told I would need to be constantly wiping things down? I wasn't utterly convinced but not sure why - it could very well be correct! I'd also considered a very low bath with a shower over it (makes it easier to use as shower on a routine basis). I liked that idea as the main purpose of having both was to make both very usable - as opposed to shower over bath and that being a bit annoying for daily use as a shower. However, I haven't seen a low bath in usage, so not sure what they are really like!

If you shop for a space saving toilet there should be plenty of room for a full sized basin on the same wall. A p shaped bath would also give you a little more room at the shower end.

Looks gorgeous, I agree no changes needed. Something I didn't realise how much I'd love in my bathroom was a bath rack/ board which was a Christmas present from my sister. Had forgotten what a luxury taking time to enjoy a bath is ( wine is optional!!) My only instaworthy home pic!!!

I have 600sq porcelain tiles and definitely makes the room look bigger. My clever tiler used a 1mm gap too with expoxy grout so it looks like a slab rather than individual tiles. Grout match was virtually identical. I used Lusso Stone as their price was a lot less than the boutique stone companies I was considering. My tiles are nearly identical to the ones on the Topps website that you mentioned. Delivery was very good too and no issue with quality. I love the tiles. I will try and find the name for you. We recently stayed at Pine Trees in Pitlochry and their bathroom tiles are Lusso Stone.

The tiles were 60 x 60 Kast Sand on floor and Kast White on walls from Mandarin Stone. The small ones were Bergen Ivory decor matt frim Mandarin Stone.

To increase to feel of space think about contrasts. Matching the tile colour to grout means it will look seamless. Add texture to create interest and have some wood. The built out false wall behind bath is so useful.

Single tile colour is a good call in a space this small. The Essen Bone type tones work really well if you keep grout tight and colour-matched, it stops everything feeling chopped up. I’d lean brushed brass or soft black for fixtures rather than chrome, just to add a bit of contrast without going shouty.

I would only use black if you have soft water as the limescale marks from hard water will spoil your fittings appearance in no time. Buy the most expensive taps including bathfiller types (Hansgrohe or Vardo) that you can afford as they are very expensive to replace when the cheap ones no longer have the technical backup that they require such as replacement cartridges. Think about access to fittings too. Anything built into the wall or boxed out will require demolition to access and replacement tiling and making good. Deck mounted taps over wall mounted, face mounted showers on riser rails and accessible toilets for maintenance or at least a flush plate that can be removed for valve replacement. I would rather choose cheaper tiles and more expensive taps if budget is an issue.
