I had mine panelled with individual T&G cut to size. Undercoat and top coat of a dead flat wood paint, and it's still gr8 30 years on. Now you can buy the MDF sheets as mentioned above. You still have to put in place horizontal batons, but an under and top coat with a final coat of clear varnish - I would go for Yacht Varnish - and it'll last for years. Just make sure you seal top & bottom edges too. Good luck.

The best advice I can offer is find a local architect to go on this journey with you. It is apparent from your posts that you have a budget in mind and a set of requirements to be met - it is worth working closely with a consultant who fully understands your wish list A local architect will have knowledge of the planning constraints in the area. With a full understanding of your budget they should be able to advise you on whether certain properties can be altered to meet your requirements - e.g. It might or might not be possible to add another floor to a bungalow because of planning, but if it was possible it might be too expensive (or it might be simpler to demolish the existing property and build a new house - but will this work with the budget) Try looking in the 'find a pro' section of Houzz for an architect in the area you are looking for a house. Hi Jen. Mine is panelled floor to ceiling albeit in a different style. The moisture resistant MDF is just that, its MR and it's splash proof but you couldn't have water constantly running against it as it's still prone to swelling etc as far as I'm aware. Mine is actually fine around around the bath, despite me constantly dropping the shower head and spraying the walls, although I have had a couple of expansion gaps appear elsewhere tbh. I opted for F&B water based so don't know if LG oil would have been better or it could just have been my painting!

If you mean Shower boards I think that since they feature realistic marble and granite finishes they are not just for new builds. I do think you need to get a quality one so that you are not relying on silicone to make them waterproof.
