POLL: Off-centre fireplace - keep it or move it?
Comments (23)Could you add a faux 'log' store adjoining it, or a faux cupboard, to centre the whole thing in the space without moving the fireplace? If you added a shallow wall-frame to the right of the fireplace (same height, and extending to the right to create exact symmetry of the outside edge of the fireplace) you could some log slices in it to simulate a log store. Or just add a custom cupboard front to the right, so it looks like a part of the fireplace unit......See MoreHelp!!! More tiling issues!!!!! Kitchen backsplash this time...
Comments (32)Tiles are one way to introduce some pops of colour in your kitchen. If you are worried about the grout discolouring, use epoxy grout which is more resilient to liquid staining. Also, if you use a coloured grout, discolouration will be less noticeable. If you choose textured tiles with rectilinear edges, grout lines are almost invisible. Using tiles can look more traditional compared to glass or stainless steel. The problem with stainless steel is keeping it looking good. Drip marks and grease are instantly noticeable. Glass is less obvious when splashed. They are both more industrial and modern looking. What about using the same material that makes up your worktop as the splashback? Most manufacturers of manmade worktops also do an 11mm thick splashback and upstand....See MoreBacksplash dilemma.
Comments (6)Hi Carolyn. I think your kitchen looks great, love the styling of the shelves. Does the "splashback "on the oven come off? If not, and may be wrong(!), I think a splashback might look a bit odd. If you were to do anything I might add a splashback all the way across that wall up to the bottom of the first shelves but it would be good to see a pic including the ceiling. Your kitchen to me seems all about texture so I would actually avoid any type of coloured glass but add more interest with texture. I don't think it's needed though I would just clear a couple of things off the worktop add some wild flowers (good faux if necessary) and a potted herb or 2...See MoreHelp me finish off this space!?
Comments (10)I often lay out my pictures on the floor below the wall and use a tape measure for scale, then you can play about with the arrangement and take photos before putting anything on the wall! Or you can also use brown paper to make templates of your pictures and use frog tape (you can tape this to a wall without it damaging the paint) to stick them to the wall until you have your desired layout! Rectangular panels could be lovely, or maybe even a picture shelf? That would give you the gallery wall effect? Some examples below :)...See Moreqam999
