Great article and thank you! I am on the 'for' side in keeping dry goods in glass jars. Another COVID-19 era plus with that is, it helps keep packaging storage to a minimum. I started doing this in my last house that I remodeled before I sold it. The best part about my kitchen was the pantry and crazy storage features I added. I had glass jars in different sizes and lots of them had labels on it. Another perk (something you mentioned as well) with glass storage is, you can see exactly what you need without the digging! Lots of good tips. I am also on the side of emptying boxes of food into glass or plastic containers. Mainly it just saves a lot of space, but for other reasons too. As per my Drs advice, with Covid-19 it gets the more handled part of the product out of the house. Cereal, rice, pasta gets put in a container and if that doesn't fit then a zip type bag which can be stacked on a shelf.

The photo of the under sink area looks great (also unrealistic) but a bug guy told me many years ago to take cleaning items out of cardboard because it attracts bugs. Even the box of Brillo. I take the plastic garbage bags out of the box and put them in a recycled glass jar so I can easily pull one out at a time. Same with dishwasher powder. I decant it into soda bottles, it takes up less room and I can easily pour it into the d/w.

Lastly, I had to laugh at the storage of the plastic containers and lids! Sorry. That must be a photo from the cabinet/ container company. I mean its beautiful. Most people I know recycle food containers. And in my Italian-American family we recycle all food containers- within reason of course that it can go in the d/w. Items like large ricotta containers are used to freeze tomato sauce and soups, As a matter of fact we call it Italian Tupperware!

I also like putting items in glass storage jars -- I use the glass canning jars and they serve a dual purpose!

Where can I find the acrylic containers you show in the photo with the spices, oils etc? I looked on your website store and they aren't there. Where did the organizer buy these? Thanks in advance

Awesome article! Thank you. I have sm. canning jars with white lids. For all my white ingredients I use a wet erase marker to name them (on the lids). Now I have all my frequently used items at my finger tips (flour, sugar, flax seeds, matcha tea powder, magnesium, vitamin C etc). The rack is 3 feet long from Amazon and the canning jar lids are from walmart (BPA-free/dishwasher safe.) The LED strip lights are an added and exciting feature. And my power strip is always handy with its USB charging ports built in. Note: the LED lights are prettier at night!

@cresskillgirl - I love it! And I can surely relate. I brought up two sons in a strongly Italian family. I KNEW I had done a good job when I visited my adult oldest and saw he had a neat row of freshly washed jars on the counter. He recently started making home-made pasta sauce (actually, we call it spaghetti sauce) with fresh tomatoes prebaked in the oven, and was saving the jars for his sauce. Can you say, Proud Mama?? ;)

Really great ideas. I also use acrylic and glass containers to store dry goods and spices. I got the acrylic containers at Bed Bath & Beyond and Costco. The glass ones from all over, Home Goods, TJMaxx, Target, BB&B, Amazon. I love opening my cabinets and seeing everything I have and everything organized.

cresskillgirl , My British Caribbean / Ghanian Swaziland family also reuses all containers! We will get a deep freezer once we move into our own home as we are staying in a rental temporarily. We don't like to waste food. So, try to freeze and reuse as many leftover meals as our freezer will allow. Being able to see what we actually have is the challenge with reusing containers as we use yoghurt and icecream containers. So a labelling system is what we are going to use going forward.

I ordered three of the stepped spice racks online. Plastic ones that expand from side to side and are easier to clean. Love them as you can see everything at a glance. Love the lazy Susan idea for putting different oils on, need to do this!
