How to Beat the Heat with Specialist Roof Window Treatments
Discover the best heat protection options to help keep your rooms cool on even the hottest days.

Controlling how much sunlight comes through windows and hits a room’s interior – the solar gain – is at the heart of creating a comfortable indoor climate. If we can stop or reduce sunlight before it passes through the glass, we can reduce the amount of heat that builds up internally. There are various approaches, from simple curtains to exterior treatments that block the sun before it even penetrates the glazing. Read on to find out which are most effective and how VELUX® specialist blinds and shutters can help protect your rooms from heat and create a comfortable indoor climate.
Fit anti-heat blinds
Keep your home cool with VELUX anti-heat blinds and shutters, designed to shield your space from the heat of the sun even before it reaches your windows.
Specialist anti-heat blinds that are fitted to the exterior of VELUX roof windows reduce solar gain by up to 78%, helping to maintain a cool and comfortable interior temperature. A standard interior roller blind, on the other hand, reduces solar gain by 17%. VELUX anti-heat blinds are a durable option that can be installed from inside the room with a choice of solar, electric or manual operation. All VELUX solar blinds and shutters don’t need an electrical connection or any cables.
The transparent mesh design makes it possible to protect the interior from the heat, while still letting in light and maintaining the view. They are excellent for spaces that you use throughout the day, such as living rooms and offices. What’s more, they can be combined with internal blinds and insect screens.

Create a blackout
If you want to create a dark, cosy bedroom in the evening while also ensuring the room stays at a comfortable temperature all day, VELUX anti-heat blackout blinds are a great option.
These easy-to-install external blinds reduce solar heat by 94% and are particularly effective in children’s bedrooms when summer light levels can disrupt sleep in the evening and early morning. In addition, they reduce outside noise and even offer moderate insulation in colder months.

They boost your home’s security, too, offering additional protection from break-ins, and will reduce noise from rain and hail.

How to stop flies in roof windows is just a big issue any suggestions, apart from heat, rural area so have blinds shut, and now windows shut to stop flies, 29 in the bedroom last night!
I've purchased an electric bug zapper - they are attracted to the uv light and they collect in a neat tray at the bottom for easy disposal. I bought it online from a guy selling them in Scotland! They can be plugged in anywhere there's a socket. Not pretty but needs must. Better than poisonous air sprays.
