Who: Nick Vassilopoulos, Director of Perla Windows.
Where: UK and Europe
In his words: “We’ve applied our knowledge, experience and passion for architecture and design to deliver elegant and high quality products that we’re extremely proud of. Our glazing is often the focal point of a renovation, which is great to see.”
Whether it’s doors onto your outdoor space, an internal room divider or glazing for your garden studio, metal-framed doors and windows have been adding an industrial feel to spaces for some time now, and are definitely here to stay. Inspired by steel windows of the Art Deco era, these frames give interiors a classic yet contemporary look.
However, with so many options on the market, how do you know which style of glazing is going to encourage a light-filled home? We approached window expert Nick Vassilopoulos, director of Perla Windows, to give us the lowdown on how to make the right choice. “Fundamentally, we believe in keeping window and glazed door designs simple. While our products are bespoke and extremely versatile, enabling us to create intricate designs if required, we feel simple, symmetrical solutions are visually appealing and also help the re-sale value of a property as they will cater to broader tastes,” says Nick.

A wealth of experience. After working for 15 years in the high-end residential construction industry, and using many different glazing contractors, Nick and his two colleagues noticed a gap in the market for a glazing company offering better overall value, shorter lead times and a reliable, personal service. So, six years ago, Perla Windows was created, combining the trio’s industry expertise, a good understanding of the product and a passion for design.
Working mainly with the customer’s architect, interior designer or builder, Perla Windows helps develop the final design, while their in-house installation team ensures the end product is fitted to perfection with superb quality control.

Steel or aluminium? To decide which material to go for, you should first choose the style of glazing you’d like. If you have your heart set on the classic Crittall style, then the simple, slender design of steel frames should definitely be on your wish list. If a strong, durable sliding door is more your budget, then aluminium frames offer a versatile and affordable solution that’s also very energy-efficient.
Whatever design or material you choose, the team at Perla Windows will work closely to deliver your exact needs. They are particularly proud of their competitive lead times for their steel products, delivering them in 8-10 weeks from the signed-off drawings.

1. Create uninterrupted views with compact sight-lines
The strength of steel glazing means you don’t need as much framework, allowing you to combine ultra slim frames with large glazed panels.
The oversized glazed panels in this West London home allow light to flood in and help to connect the inside to the outside space. “Our steel systems provide the narrowest possible profiles so you can be sure of wonderful garden views without compromising on performance,” says Nick.

2. Enhance your garden room with metal-framed windows
With many of us working from home, the popularity of garden studios has grown. To encourage you to head out to your garden office, it’s a good idea to create a feeling of cohesion between the outbuilding and the main home. “Whether you’ve already fitted metal-framed windows in your kitchen, or you’re looking to install them in the future, consider mirroring the look in your garden room and you’ll create a smart, symmetrical feel that’s timeless,” says Nick.
The stunning garden room at the bottom of this outdoor space displays metal-framed glazing that mirrors the large format steel screens of the kitchen. As well as flooding each area with light, the metal-glazing pulls the focus to the exterior views beyond and, in turn, expands the sense of space.

3. Use glazed partitions to let light stream through
Need to create a home office that’s closed off from the bustle of the house? A steel glazed partition is an ideal option. A transparent area like this will not only offer a peaceful space to work in, but will also ensure your desk is illuminated with plenty of natural light.
This bespoke glazed wall and door separates the working space from the hallway and busy open-plan kitchen. The owner can feel connected to the rest of the household, while being quietly tucked away behind the glass.
