Take a Spin in a Swivel Chair
If You Loved Sit-n-Spin as a Kid, You'll Adore These Turning Chairs
More commonly seen in hair salons than in living rooms, swivel chairs are making a big comeback. Designers are reupholstering vintage finds and furniture companies are rediscovering the magic of the turning seat. They can add a groovy retro element to a room, and are just plain fun to take for a spin. Here's a look at some stylish swivel chairs from around Houzz:
This pair allows you to do a 180 to take the view, or a 90 degree turn to converse when you have company.
A pair of swivels can encourage conversation, or if you get annoyed and want to be super-dramatic, you can hold up your hand and snap "Talk to the back of the head!" and do a 180.
Interior designer Erin Fearins found these vintage swivel chairs and modernized them with chenille upholstery. They are elegant yet fun.
Another stylish swivel choice – instead of a bench or settee, consider a modern retro pair of these chairs at the foot of your bed.
Swivels are also fabulously functional in the dining room. They make it possible to seat yourself at the table without having to pull out your chair.
The ability to spin back and forth a bit would help make those meetings at the conference table where the boss drones on about TPS reports and "thinking outside the box" a bit more tolerable.
Placing a large upholstered armchair here would probably overwhelm the space, but this sexy number is the perfect fit.
These large, somewhat clunky chairs atop such small perches seem like a juxtaposition, but that's what makes them so interesting.
This room gets a big jolt of beautiful blue from this comfortable and curvy number.
Here the choice of a swivel chair along with the open chrome coffee table saves on floor space, makes the room feel larger, and lets that gorgeous rug get all of the attention it deserves.
While most modern desk chairs are some sort of pedestal base spinner, there are some much more interesting and attractive versions that are appropriate for the office.
They make for some fun outdoor lounging pieces.
They can also take on a tropical feel.
This coffee table appears to float, so elevating the chairs above the floor is the right move.
This room is a great assemblage of contemporary, unique and retro pieces. There's great play between those square hunks of wood that form the coffee table tops and the curvy swivel chairs. This same play goes throughout the architecture of the house, where large curved windows and walls meet a lot of rectilinear modern lines.
The iconic Tulip Chair is a classic dining swivel, and the perfect partner for a Tulip Table.
And finally, the Swan Chair is one of the most stunning Scandinavian icons of all time – it adds personality to any space.
