What to Expect at Clerkenwell Design Week 2023
Get the lowdown on the key themes, venues and designers and discover what Houzz will be doing at 2023’s festival
This year’s Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) will be bigger and better than ever, with more than 600 events taking place from 23 to 25 May across the lively, creative east London neighbourhood. Here’s a sneak peek at some of the show’s highlights and key information about where you’ll find Houzz at the event.
What are the festival’s main themes?
Sustainability is a key theme at Clerkenwell this year, with designers using technology, biodiversity and recycled materials to ensure environmentally-friendly products are the norm rather than the exception.
Brands such as Graphenstone breathable paints, Ercol furniture and Parkside tiles will all be exhibiting their own innovative designs that are helping to tackle climate change.
There will also be a focus on crafts, with a particular emphasis on the creative talent found among British makers. Exhibitors will include Derbyshire lighting brand Curiousa, Yorkshire-based furniture firm Koda, and fibre artist Livi Hecht of London-based Knot My Name. Elsewhere, brands such as Yuzemi (pictured) will showcase crafts from countries such as Japan.

Will there be any panel discussions?
The festival’s talks programme, Conversations at Clerkenwell, will be a key feature of the event and is where you’ll find insights from some of the most influential thought leaders in the design industry.
The programme will be opened by London-born-and-bred artist and designer Morag Myerscough, who will speak with Bethan Ryder of WGSN about her joyful approach to transforming places.
Key topics of the talks programme will include the meaning of ‘taste’, colour trends for 2024, Scandinavian design, circularity, diversity and maximalism.
