Vertical glass slits were utilised at the ground and first floor living rooms, creating visual connections between spaces and filtering light throughout the house.

The new and enlarged kitchen, fitted with custom-built stainless steel units, opens up onto the reception rooms. This creates fluidity throughout the ground floor, whilst maintaining the individuality of each space.

The work done on this late 18th Century Grade II listed house on Highbury Fields is characteristic of Azman Architects’ work on period buildings.

New work is unobtrusive, sitting within the original form rather than covering it. The kitchen was designed as freestanding units, allowing the historic fabric to remain intact in the background.

We had the master bedroom fitted with a bespoke bed and bedside tables. A purpose-designed shelving unit acts as a headboard whilst also facilitating a dedicated dressing area.

The kitchen's splash-back tiles were chosen from a Domus range and brown sheet rubber has been installed on the floor.

The ‘kitchen pod’ is enclosed by a series of cherry panels and doors, which cover a cloaks cupboard and dining room cabinets. The splash-back tiles were chosen from a Domus range and brown sheet rubber has been installed on the floor.

The client was very keen to have the kitchen reinstated as close to the original as possible, so we designed it in that spirit: as a pod with white-and-stainless-steel cabinets. We also kept the cabinet detailing very much in line with the original.

Balconies were rebuilt retaining the original building line with the addition of new glass balustrades.
