Houzz unveils Pop-up Shop "DreamHouzz" to make Brits' Dream Home a Reality

  • The immersive retail experience allows visitors to explore eight inspiring rooms curated by leading interior designers on Houzz
  • A Houzz survey reveals more than two-thirds of homeowners believe their dream home is still a work in progress

London, UK, 21 September 2018 – Houzz.co.uk, the leading platform for home renovation and design, opens the doors today to the DreamHouzz, a pop-up experience set in a historical Bermondsey warehouse. The old tannery has been transformed into eight beautiful room sets with the purpose of showing that anyone can achieve their dream home, regardless of size or budget. All design pieces on display are shoppable on Houzz.

So what does a dream home really mean to homeowners and renters? Houzz surveyed its community to find out, gathering responses from 2,560 users*. Based on the insights from the study, Houzz worked closely with nine leading interior design studios from the Houzz community, 2LG Studio, Brooke Copp-Barton, Dee Campling, Designed by Woulfe and Clare Gaskin, Honey Bee Interiors, At Home with Hostmaker, Owl Design and Shanade McAllister-Fisher, to address homeowners’ and renters’ needs and desires.

Each stunning and creative space includes furniture and design accessories to reflect the findings of the survey. For example, according to the research, the items in the home that made homeowners feel most content were comfy furniture (70%), artwork (54%), houseplants (47%) and cosy touches such as candles and blankets (43%); all of which will be on display in the DreamHouzz. Forty-four percent of respondents said they cherish their beds over any other item in their homes, so visitors will also have an opportunity to try Casper’s award-winning mattresses and bed accessories.

Establishing the right atmosphere in one’s home is important, and Houzz users have a clear vision of how they want their dream homes to look. The majority want their homes to feel positive (64%) or cosy (50%), while others aspire to a Zen/calming (49%) or creative (41%) vibe. In order to appeal to a wide range of visitors, the room sets have been designed with different themes in mind, ranging from a Renter’s Sanctuary to a Modern Family Pad.

According to the survey, respondents said they were happiest in homes that boasted lots of natural light (68%), had the right colour scheme (50%), and a quality finish (47%). For those in need of colour inspiration, the DreamHouzz offers visitors a chance to preview Dulux’s Colour of the Year 2019 and the key interior colour trends for the year ahead which are brought to life in each room set.

The study also revealed that achieving your dream home can be hard work – more than two-thirds (66%) said their home was a work in progress and 7% confessed they were in need of serious help to achieve their vision. Only 22% felt their home was just what they wanted. Financing (28%), lack of time (19%) and finding the right products (18%) are the biggest hurdles for those who believe their homes aren’t quite there yet. As such, the DreamHouzz caters for all styles and budgets to help people make their dream house a reality.

Houzz users also divulged their top design dilemmas, and the Houzz professionals have tackled these concerns in their designs. Common concerns were not having enough storage space (36%), mismatching furniture (19%) and dealing with an awkward layout (19%). Nine percent reported that they didn’t have enough open space in which the family could socialise.

As well as inspiring design, the DreamHouzz will be a fully immersive experience, enhanced by scent, music and food. Delicious organic coffee and a selection of healthy snacks will be provided by Whole Foods Market who are powering the DreamHouzz café.

The pop-up shop, which is completely free to visit, is located on 47 Tanner Street, and opens to the public between 12pm-9pm on 21st September, and will thereafter be open daily between 10am-9pm, until 30th September.
