I think drawers may be more expensive than cabinets, but I suggest making sure there are enough drawers. Too many kitchens have too many cupboards and too few drawers.
Use drawers (deep and otherwise) everywhere you can use drawers. Add custom dividers or divided trays in most of the shallower drawers. In full depth pantries, use pullout shelves with low sides above waist level (drawers below that height). I cannot fathom why people spend many tens of thousands of dollars, even over a hundred grand, on gorgeous looking kitchens, but have only a few drawers.
Without drawers, you put things you rarely use at the bottom, at the back, of lower cabinets, and then, surprise! You never use those things. You forget you had them.
