I have a Patagonia rain jacket that I really like. It doesn't compress into a pocket but it will roll up for easy packing and is waterproof rather than water resistant. It kept me dry in the constant drizzle of Ketchikan, Alaska. Patagonia sizing is sometimes off, but their jackets usually fit me. I am 5'6" and a size 6. I bought a small and was able to layer underneath. I don't see my colorway which is black on top with gray on the bottom. Also, the fit is a bit longer on me than on the model.

I am also planning a fall trip to Europe and expecting lots of walking in the rain. I haven't purchased this yet, so I can't speak to the fit yet, but I am looking at the Helly Hansen Aden long rain jacket. I'm thinking of getting black, but thought the details were more visible in this pink color.

I'm also looking for comfortable shoes that will hold up in wet weather. Found these cut On Cloud 6 waterproof sneakers and Blundstone chelsea boots.

I think I have some REI rain pants somewhere that I bought for backpacking. I'd just go to a sporting goods store and try some on until you find a pair that fits.

If you don’t need a raincoat to provide a lot of warmth, look at Athleta. They are having a sale right now too. I have a one that is waterproof & hits mid-thigh and love it because it’s so lightweight. I think it is this one. I like having a hood.

They have a longer coat now too, but there is no hood & it’s not waterproof. Maybe it’s more of a coat than rain wear.
I am fairly tall with long-ish arms and find I don’t need the tall size as a rule.

Peach galette? I think I feel a surgery coming on! Lol Seriously, what a nice thing to do, mtn. My drs have always recommended lean protien when recovering from illness or surgery. Of course the digestive system needs to be able to handle it .

Dont peel. they are forgivably thinned-skinned . thanks for the stew recipe— my kind of persnickety.😊

What a wonderful package to help your friend heal!
I always make the same stew (rosemary-shallot beef stew) but next time I'll try it with short ribs!
I never peel baby potatoes for stew and those look especially thin. I think you are fine!

“The MD just feels that my DH is an inattentive male who doesn't listen to anyone and therefore doesn't remember any conversations that he isn't particularly vested in.”
Pretty sure I’ve observed that syndrome before!

Do not forget to check for UTI. My neighbor about the same age had one and she did not even know it. UTI causes confusion. .

aww, Honu

I lived in Santa Barbaramany years ago. It has one of the prettiest Missions in the State One thing that hasnt been mentioned is the Lompoc Flower Fields. A beautiful patchwork of colors.
Well I did a lot of poking around online and realized a few things. One, I don’t have to go to CA to take a cyanotype class, and in fact I might prefer another teacher for learning new things. Also, we have a very long list of places we want to visit, and these areas are not on the list. (And we went to California just last fall.) I think I would prefer to take classes I can drive to (easier to bring artwork home) and instead tackle a trip that’s been on our list (such as: Ireland, Costa Rica, Amsterdam, Newfoundland, and a bunch of our own national parks we haven’t been to).
But thank you all, this board is such a great resource!
I lived in the Monterey Bay area for 35 year, and I do not want to discourage anyone from visiting. But keeping in touch with friends and the local media, I have learned that success is really hurting the area. Weekend crowds, special events, traffic that is impossible.... it's not the same place that it was many years ago, or even when we moved away 10 years ago. My friends there are feeling it in the worst way, unfortunately. So I still encourage people to visit and enjoy, but please plan carefully. There's not a bad time of year weather-wise, even in winter, Take advantage of mid-week times, off-season times and check the C of C's schedule of events. The place is magical, I I hope everyone gets the opportunity to experience it.
