I have a friend who hates overhead lighting so I finally started using some of my lamps and under cabinet lights when she visits. But at the same time her house is so dark to me I'm ready to leave after a day. too depressing for me idk.

Great article, @Jan Moyer Thanks for sharing! Hard to detect smells when they are yours. A babysitter once told me she loved how our house always smelled of cooked rice. I hadn't noticed. I won't have pets in my house anymore because of how they make the house smell. How do I know what my house smells like? Ask a true friend I guess. And then if it's a bad smell, how do I know how to get rid of it? A realtor taught me to add Clorox to small sponged in small leak proof containers and hide them through the house. It works as long as it is maintained. The bleach evaporates. Contrary to what you might be thinking, it doesn't smell like a pool. A plumber taught me to clean the sink then the garbage disposal with ice chunks followed by dishwashing detergent. I suppose having smaller trash containers and changing them often is helpful. I don't like opening windows because of all the mold spores that come and grow in the house. Long term, that advice seems to add to the smells. I feel the same way about live plants and the mold smell that lives in the potting mix. Dried plants may be an option between live plants and plastic ones. I've wondered about other things like baking soda, volcanic rocks, and charcoal for eliminating smells. Do they work?

It's actually a beautiful 80deg morning in Houston today! Coffee on the patio and a fresh breeze is putting me in the mood to tackle some projects :)
I have a few different rooms/areas I'm deciding between to start first. I'm going to start a new thread for that with a poll to vote which one. I'll try to start that in a week or so. After the cleaning people come! ;)
But first! I'm circling back to finish my girl's rooms and a mini revamp in ther J&J bath. Their rooms are about finished. I still need to hang a shelf in each and buy nightstands for both and a rug for my 12yo. 12! :o
Now I want to finish and upgrade their bathroom so they will both use it. I'm tired of them in mine and the guest bath haha
My List:
Install glass door instead of shower curtain.
Redo stupid hamper cabinet that waste so much space.
Paint or wallpaper
Maaaaybe remove mirror and expose closed off window behind it. (There was a building issue)

It needs some way to help divide their spaces. Ideally we should have installed a double vanity but that same "issue" resulted in idk short plumbing or something? and it was "decided" to go with a single. That story is for another day though unless there is some cheap plumbing way to allow for a double, otherwise this is what I have to go with.

How about a narrow 9 foot wide breeze way connected to a bigger room?
I have pots and pans in 2 drawers in my kitchen, and the only things that are stacked are cast iron frying pans that are the same size, so we never have to move anything.
clergychick, I wonder if your first pot drawer had full extension glides? Having the drawer pull all the way out makes using large items in a drawer SO much easier!
This drawer is actually 22" wide, but it is just deep enough for the larger pot and lid (my cabinets were custom, so I was able to specify the usable depth of the drawers).
This one is deep enough for crock pots and a rice cooker. At 30" wide, there is room to spare.
Finally, my favorite drawer - cake pans and pie tins stored vertically.
I think that the height/width of the drawers is very important - I've been doing research on that very issue recently. A 24" deep drawer doesn't seem like it would be very functional for anyone. OP - what width of drawers would work in your current kitchen?
After seeing photos of the above pot drawers, I am very excited to renovate my kitchen!
I absolutely despise storing my pots/pans/lids on shelves inside of my island - it was okay before my SO moved in with me because (i) everything was very organized, and (ii) I didn't have a ton of duplicate pans/pots/lids. He just stuffs things wherever he can fit them when he puts them away + he brought all of his pots/pans even though they were not needed + mine were better quality.
I need to start a huge purge session in my kitchen before my renovations begins . . .
I am not in favour of everyone doing what I like but my advice was for the OP to figure out what they like. I also always have some warmth in all my spaces becuase balance is something I favor. I often add wood to my spaces for exactly that warmth . My advice stands the OP needs to show us what they want in their mind.
I bought my LR rug from etsy. I ordered a sample to see all the yarn colors first and you could custom the designs with your own color choices (I did not do that option).
@liasch - The colors are much more muted than the photos. I don’t know why they photograph that way but the bedroom one is closer to pale blue and the dining room is a softer turquoise. It took a while to find what I wanted.
Rug shopping is more marathon than sprint….
