They look expensive and they can be if you go into the wrong shop. If you are ever in Miami or look up pictures of the St. Regis Bal Harbor you will see they have the entire inside of the hotel decorated in it. So it is premium quality marble.
It has as always been over charged not because of the actual cost of mining and extracting the blocks, but run through an inefficient supply chain with 4 steps and everyone adding 100% Markup thus the consumer ends up paying $30 to $50 a Square Foot.
Remove that supply chain and you can bring it to market at a price that is well terrifying to any retailer.
