Kitchen help

Our building work has taken longer than we thought and now I'm not sure which kitchen to go for.
We are going to use howdens, but don't know whether to go for the Tewkesbury in white or glendevon?
There is quite a difference in price, but wondered if anyone had a preference?

Go for quality on the units and the doors. Make sure the carcass has a solid back, not a ply one. It's also as important that the hinges are top quality as they get all the wear and tear (blum are best). Solid as you can on the doors. Hope this helps

Have you looked online? So many places to by from now. I don't like that they only sell to builders then they make money by selling it on to you. Dodgy. Who do you go to when it goes rong. Builder or shop?

Depending on how far you budget goes, I would look at adding traditional cornice and pelmet and replacing the plinth with a similar oyster colour. End panels for wall units could also be replaced / added. Some chessboard style tilling in 3 colours would also bring out the walls. It's hard to tell but is the oak surround also on the wall units? I haven't checked your location but this is something we can help with

I think you're rather stuck on where to put a fridge freezer now the kitchen is done because it would need to go on the end of the run because of the height. I guess you could put it in the dining area along with a couple of larder units to make it one long continuous run if you're opting for a smaller table although I do like how it currently is. Regarding corners I would always plan a 900 L shaped base in each corner because you can then open each door offering you full and easy access to the whole area. Much cheaper than installing chromeworks in a cupboard for a decent brand.

If you are on budget, what about a row of shaker pegs? The whole length! Can hang decorative items, dried flowers, tea towels, aprons, frames, baskets, even gym kits.... Could even use sheets of mdf tongue and grooves on the wall... all relatively cheap and would suit the style of your kitchen! Ideally, I also think a swap between door and right window would be ideal; could then put floor to ceiling cupboards on the right, as you come into kitchen, for extra storage! The swap shouldn’t cost too much as you already have the lintels...

Tricky situation 😢 I love the first kitchen colourhappy posted (I remember the Houzz tour and it was all lovely!) and it seems like a great compromise. from what you’ve described the kitchen is literally polar opposite of what you like and I’m not so sure on the white worktops nor tbh the longevity of the design but may be wrong. I think you’d definitely need some wood as an accent for shelves, stools or wall panelling etc not so sure about the floor but some may work. Is this “just” a kitchen or open plan room? Another way is to let the principal chef choose the kitchen, given the amount of time they spend in there, and then the other choose the design of another room? Or let the “loser” choose the kitchen accessories.

hi treefumum, take a look around your house at existing furniture and look at your own style this will help sway you to decide on either a crisp clean minimal look of Glendevon or a classic family shaker look. remember this is your home and don't be talked into a choice by a salesman.
