POLL: Metro tiles - hit or miss?
Comments (56)I used white ones with white grout as splash back around hob and just up to window height around the rest of the kitchen. They were inexpensive and look quite stylish and unobtrusive. I would never opt for coloured or patterned tiles as they would inevitably date and tiling is SO permanent. I do however hate them with dark grout....See MorePOLL: What is more important - Time, Cost or Quality ?
Comments (8)Depends entirely on client circumstance - as an architect I'd go for quality every time. BUT if a client isn't going to stay in that house long-term and it's not a very high-end area, quality is less important. Sometimes a family is running out of space and they'll sacrifice quality for increased floor area. Quality is also subjective so if a client wants a cheap floor material or cheaper windows, I'll have a conversation about what the compromise is (durability, look, sustainability etc etc) but ultimately it's their choice. Everyone wants their project done quickly but understanding that small builders can't always deliver that without additional cost is important....See MoreBad tile job, looking for solutions
Comments (8)I think this job was beyond the skill set of the guy who did it or you have a fundamental issue with the quality of the tiles or the evenness of your walls and he should have alerted you to that before pressing on with a bad job. If it were me I couldn’t live with this and would have the tiles off and do it again. I can’t imagine the first guy will be able to do it better a second time so I would get someone else. Next time get someone who identifies the issue (tile quality, poor wall walls etc) but can provide solutions to and issues and can assure you that they can provide a clean cut on the tiles you have purchased. I would specify tile trims as well in order to neaten up corners....See Morepicking carpet to match your tiles, carpet quality advice too please!
