Bed placement

I can't sleep with my double bed in the middle of the room, it needs to be against a wall. Yet no matter where I place it the room always looks like a student flat, any ideas to make it look more grown up?

I don't know if your room is big enough for this, but you'd could angle the bed from a corner and build out the wall behind it so it sits flat up against the new wall.

A Life More Beautiful - I appreciate the advice for moving the rod. I'll give that a try. It shouldn't be much of an issue for the drapes as they are very close to floor length but are covered up by the bed and the rocker anyway. :). So there should be a gap between the rod & the top of the shades then? I think my husband assumed it should sit right on top. I've actually never heard of a pelmet. I'm off to check google! I thought the fairy lights were rather cute & the girls love them. Only a few dollars at ikea too. :)

It doesn't look bad if it's dressed well it just doesn't flow as well as if it was centred with a bedside table either side. Symmetry tends to help a room flow

hi there. bed placement would depend on the various factors, for instance the size of the bed, size of the bed in relation to the room, size and placement of windows... is it not possible to position it on the wall with the door? are you able to provide pictures of the actual space and bed, or a sketch/ plan view at least?

It’s not what you asked but does the bedroom need to be ensuite as I’m just thinking about bed placement, wardrobes etc? Or is it a single bed? I guess where the kitchen, living etc is placed is personal preference. I’d prefer the kitchen next to the garden as i cook a lot, easier for taking food/drink to the garden, rubbish out etc and would prefer the natural light particularly if the living area is mainly for watching tv. If you’re fond of reading, just looking at the garden, hobbies etc you may prefer it by the doors. Dining again, i’d eat breakfast or lunch at the island (but depends how many people in your family) and only dinner at the table when it’s dark so not fussed about a view. I would prefer a separate utility for somewhere to dry clothes out of sight.
