Advice on external wood cladding

I am planning an extension project that will ideally be clad in wood. I love the look, but I'm dreading the maintenance. Has anyone got any experience with external cladding (wood or otherwise) and can recommend a product or which type of wood to go or not go with? Treated or untreated? Any thoughts or advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Comments (5)I would stain the cladding black to look like shou sugi ban Japanese wood. This way you only need a coat or two and it will gradually fade so no painting maintenance required. The issue with doing this is that your window frames will look very prominent. Painting it a soft greeny grey would blend in better with your windowframes but would be a lot more work....See More- PRO11 years ago

Have you considered using Krion as a facade?
