Push your dining table up by the built in seating leaving room for a small sofa and possibly one modern feature chair. At meal times, they can sit at the built in seating as it will make them higher up at the table. Define the 'lounge' area with a rug. Keep the children's area over by the shelving and have a small low desk area included in the shelving system for them to sit at which would remove the need for kids table and chairs.

Hi Mewlz, I agree with OnePlan, defining the zones is the key. If the kitchen has not be done yet I would consider too a hidden kitchen or a more 'living room' kitchen design. I have to say that IKEA is great for give you a flavour of a multifunction compact living, just browsing the images of the dressed open spaces will give you plenty of inspiration. I attached a couple of option thinking to play with what's on your plan at the moment. If you do have an empty space (no kitchen or fittings) then we can really get more creative though. The table for 6 seem a bit large for the size of the property. Keep all in proportion with the space when choosing furniture. However if you do need a large table you may want to consider a foldable one. I agree with the above. If you can afford it, I'd knock down the kitchen wall and go open plan. Fit a galley kitchen by using the wall with the window on - this will also feel more spacious as you can face a view/some light rather than having your back to it. Alternatively, it would be a possibility to move the kitchen, although the reason why this hasn't been done before is because this way, both the kitchen and reception rooms have access to natural light. If you move the kitchen, it will be (very) expensive to re-route all the service pipes and it may be left with no natural light. If you were looking for a full-on re-do, I personally would move the door into the reception room closer to the hallway wall (on the left) and extend the hallway down towards the current kitchen wall. This would add some extra wall space so you could extend your kitchen, then I'd add a door on the right of the hallway into the open plan reception room. I'd also section off part of the living room nearest the bedroom, like jonathandb1972 suggested, but I'd turn it into a second bedroom/study space which will add much more value to your property and won't be as expensive as re-routing all your services.
