POLL: What's your kitchen worktop material?
Comments (127)Another vote for Dekton and Sileston Quartz worktops, use them all the time in our projects as so much more forgiving and low maintenance than granite or marble. Agree that Corian is a good option if you have a large island to prevent visible joins, whilst it has other benefits you do need to be very careful when it comes to heat. Vast range of colours and textures in all types nowadays so the type of material shouldn't limit the effect you want to achieve - be that traditional or contemporary. I am always a big advocate that a worktop is an investment, there is no point spending a large sum on a beautiful quality kitchen and then finishing it off with a worktop that won't stand up to time as well as the rest of the room or cheapen the look - I always recommend to go for the best you can afford....See MoreDesign/Style ideas for Replacement Kitchen Doors + Worktops
Comments (14)Hi, I would definitely consider repainting the doors (especially if it works out cheaper) and would consider a dark grey with blue undertone to co-ordinate with your tiles whilst cutting between the wood / wood sort colours and shades. I would also change the door handles if you then would like to go for a wood worktop, I don't think It would look over the top. Alternativly, if you feel that you dont want a high maintenance worktop, I would look at the wood effect laminate worktops, they do vary in quality depending on where you buy but many nowadays are made to be tough and durable and require no additional maintenance except the usual cleans to maintain hygiene. Good Luck A x...See Morekitchen wooden worktop
Comments (8)We have an oiled solid wood block worktop in our utility room. We regularly re-oil it. The area around the sink has become discoloured and marked. It has also been made black in one area by some sand we used - don't ask me how or why, but I was filling something with wet sand and it has made it black where it got onto the wood. Similarly, we had an old aquarium which was leaking, which again left a black stain. Sanding and re-oiling has removed an amount of it, but it's not back to looking pristine. I have a clear plastic mat that I put the washing liquid and conditioner bottles on, because I'm paranoid now of them marking it. If I had the choice, I wouldn't choose it again and whilst it looks great, it really doesn't stand up well to any abuse....See MoreKitchen worktop advice
Comments (25)I had a similar dilemma and have chosen solid laminate or compact laminate. Pricewise it sits halfway between laminate and quartz. I couldn't justify quartz and to be honest I didn't like the look or the join you get. Due to COVID I haven't got to the install point so I can't advise any further but I am attracted to the slim profile which makes it look quite different and modern in comparison to my current laminate....See Morekatty smith
