Console table in hallway

We have put a console table over the hall radiator. Tried a lamp and a few bits and pieces but can't seem to get it to look good. We have a lot of switches that I would like to hide. Hallway is very neutral and I would like a little colour.

I'd put a radiator cover over the radiator and use that as the console. You can still put things on it but helps keep the hallway looking uncluttered.

Do you have a brightly coloured piece of art that you could try there? In theory your eye should be drawn to it. If not maybe a chrome mirror or something so the shine attracts you. In terms of on top of the console, do you have anything larger just to try? Maybe on the right get one of those urn style planters wth a plant in as it should cover it. I think the other issue is the radiator and I sympathise. I wanted my radiator moved when I moved in to accommodate the console (mad maybe!) but the builder persuaded me not to.. I regret it, I have ginger jars under my console which does detract the eye somewhat but not ideal

The floor is a concern for us and something that's on our agenda. We are planning to change it to a lighter white/grey wood such these. In terms of the blue we used it is actually supposed to be this colour, which looks much darker than the blue in our hallway: I think it was because it needed more coats to achieve this final colour. Either way it's gone now, I think skirting boards should probably just stay white! Mayfly182 that's a great idea about painting an object the desired shade of blue to go on the table! Thanks for everyone's help.

My husband doesn't think a radiator cover would give out enough heat - just this one radiator for hall, stairs & landing. But I agree an eyesore! It's taken a year to find a console the right size. I will look for more colourful, larger art for above.

Hi there, the skinny landscape print doesn't sit right in the space, you need a larger portrait orientated print or mirror, or you could go for a collection of prints but they need to be tightly together (see pic to see what I mean). If you're going for the single larger picture, generally symmetrical displays look better on consoles i.e two tall skinny lamps, two plants or two candlesticks. If all that makes sense? Maybe if you decide to have a group of pics you can strategically position some over some of the switches you want to disguise?

Thanks. I like the second picture. Hadn't thought about 2 lamps but symmetrical look is really nice.

Looks a little cluttered with the console. Maybe better to paint radiator same colours with wall or add radiator cover as others suggested.

Hey frangoitchy, I listed a few pictures as ideas. 1) is very dramatic with wood top and wrought iron but it makes a statement and adds go the overall house's character. 2) a bit safer but practical. Never seen heat not being released properly with one of those. 3) similar idea... Hope you find a solution for this entrance. I also quite like the idea of mrsmcee74. I would just add maybe something to still hide a bit the radiator... (Pic nr 4)

Hello, yes it is a bespoke piece made out of salvaged wood for top and old fence for bottom. If you are not in a rush, browse on Retrouvius for unique pieces... Or google"cast\wrought iron radiator cover" for ideas.. I would also recommend car boot sales.. Contact maybe Belico.co.uk to see if they would do something bespoke at reasonable price. I work with them for my tables and lighting. They do stunning things. I am sure they could do top in stone or reclaimed wood!

Hi, I like the decoration bits you put on. I would put a potted plant there which will make it more lively. The console table is elegant, but I would turn it around (the back now would come to the front).You could put a colourful runner. I would cover the fuse switch with a key cupboard (removing the back wall than put it on as a keyholder under the picture. That also brings a litlle bit of life. Maybe a small mirror on the wall where the door is. But nothing more, it would be too cluttered...

If you really want to hide that radiator, and still want to go with the driftwood theme you might want to consider either of these two covers perhaps - just two of hundreds of similar designs at couturecases.co.uk.
