HI -- I like the red wall but I think the whole room in that would be too much. So right now you need to cut down the contrast of the red wall . Paint a light cream tan on the other walls and also on the ceiling but leave the crown the same color. This will tone down the red and accent the crown molding. You could also use a blueish grey in the same way. Or you could also use a grey with a hint of lavender . Get some color sample cards or pots (benjamin moore paints). Get an idea of the color before you paint the whole area.

The dutch brand Flexa has a new color named Energizing Ireland (first picture, on ceiling). In their last year series there's also Early Dew (wall in second picture). But Farrow&Ball is quite popular over here too in rustic/industrial/vintage designs (saturated and matted). @Milfordmaid: thanks a lot for the suggestion. Lime green is sounding very nice to me. What did you mean by smaller bits of pillar box red? What do you think of the rug? I actually had a re-think and was thinking maybe I should leave out the rug. Just to use bright cushions, lampshades, and some decorative accessories combining the cushion colours and sofa colours and a bit of cream. What of the wall art?

Really like the drawers- I think you can mix woods- you just need to keep blond woods together and darker traditional woods together

Greg, your pad looks fabulous. Everything goes well, maybe a little too well. Add a splash of colour, for example duck egg blue, lilac, cream and gold. Maybe you could take one of the colours out of your rug. A few scatter cushions and throw on the foot of your bed would do the job. Well done you for all your efforts.

Greg, walk into a wood & look at all the different trees living in harmony. You may see Oaks next to birches, next to hollies, next to beech. They are not agonising if they "go" together. Your chest of drawers if fabulous!

I agree that everything matches too well & you could inject some colour in the sitting room..start slowly & build!

If everything in the room is the same wood finish, it starts to look like a showroom. Mixing wood finishes adds a bit of quirkiness and personality to the room so if you really like the chest of drawers then go for it! If it's really going to bug you that they're slightly different then go for a complete contrast like a painted or metal finish.

I love the drawers although agree with the others, it's all a bit matchy and new looking and the woods will clash if the styles are too similar. Try some large new rugs in both rooms ... make them much bigger so the furniture can sit on them and with a lot more colour. Go for more organic patterns and some colours to soften the squareness of the look. Pick up some colour from the rugs and add it to your walls, sofa cushions etc. Some texture incl. some tall plants would go well, something textured like a ficus. Add some original artwork (not just prints) and consider some vintage pieces that would ground the rooms a bit, look on ebay, vintage is good value for money and adds some personality - it's all a bit matchy and new right now. And have fun with it!

The furniture is fine, although I think it should be re arranged. I think the problem is the lack of colour. Try grey on the walls and replace your brown carpets with something to tone with the new wall colour, also introduce cushions in greys with a pop of a contrast colour,

Greg think you have made a great start, just needs a few colourful statement pieces. Firstly the chest of drawers are fab, my suggestion if you like them would be to utilise them in the lounge either side of the radiator under the window, for storing what looks like cd's the other side of the fireplace in these. You could put the existing cubes either side of the two sofa's. I would ditch the rug in the lounge, and get something bold and bright such as cobalt blue with orange/yellow. In the bedroom, keep the IKEA drawers and paint them either black or dark blue and have them adjacent to each other on the back wall opposite the bed, with the TV on top as someone has already suggested. The art work is great, but would swap it over to where the mirror is and move that elsewhere. Again ditch the rug, maybe an animal skin would work well in here, keeping a masculine feel. Pick some of the colours from the artwork for a well chosen throw and cushions for the bed, and don't be afraid to use some other accessories such as vases, lamps and dare I say candles!

Hi Greg. I would not change the chest of drawers colour. I think it will go with your floor as it is. Like newton81 said, sometimes matchy, matchy is not always good. I'm a female & like things that macth, but not ALL the time. Keep the chest as it is. I Love it!!
