Happy to help. Your kitchen planner or interior designer will work from industry standard measurements for the height of the counter and where the cupboards should be positioned for the reach of an average person. The gap should be approx 450mm. In kitchens that are already built sometimes it isn't - because the person who built it was crazy or very tall or both. As yours will be from scratch you have the chance to build it so it works ergonomically as well as visually. Something you can check with your designer or planner and take it from there.

With such lovely generous proportions, you could certainly get away with the largest format, and I would certainly "brick" them. That said, I'd have a word with your tiler and make sure he is happy to work with such monster tiles (they'll weigh a ton!) and has the necessary equipment to cut & shape such large items. Check that the costs will not escalate - I know that some tilers will charge a premium from working with such large formats because of the challenges. I have a supplier who can provide me with 3m x 1m tiles. I jokingly asked one of my tilers if he'd mind fitting just 6 tiles quickly for me - he gave a colourful response when I showed him the details in the catalogue!! Fortunately for him, I wouldn't be able to get them into the showroom without cutting them in two first - rather defeats the purpose though...

Hi Julian H, Wow, many thanks for your amazing inspiration! I love the idea of bifold doors, although that would take me way over my budget....but it would be lovely - and has got me thinking...! Unfortunately I don't want to lose the single door as that is the door to a small bathroom which is difficult to access from elsewhere and would then be access from a carpeted floor rather than a tiled floor, which from a muddy garden is a no. …. But with the bi fold doors, I would then be ok with blocking up my side window as per Jonathan's initial comment. Yes, moving the sink and water supply would be a pain/pricey, but it could be worthwhile seeing as everything is coming out - this is the one time opportunity. Let me have a think! I am trying to avoid having an extension, but maybe bi-folds could get round this and still provide a fabulous view (plus I think my boyfriend's parents are thinking of getting their bi-folds updated!!!). You need a couple of base decor panels to be fitted to the 150 pull outs, that will be 18mm extra, then for the rest i'd get rid of the corner post and make my own corner solution so the 150 units can be moved closer to the oven. Unfortunately its poor design and your fitter has followed the design and as the designer has supplied fixed size corner posts you get left with gaps.
