How to make our tired 1930s terrace look pretty?
Comments (19)Not sure how it works in the UK but in France if you are changing the appearance of your house that is visible from the road, you need prior permission. This is to avoid people doing things that are completely out of keeping with the neighbourhood, whether rendering, paintwork, or windows. Here you would probably have to go with cream rendering and retain the tiling, in which case choose a colour for the front door that picks up or contrasts with the brick/rust colour. My own first priority for the outside would be to deal with the garden, which you are very lucky to have, to get things in before the winter. One idea would be to get rid of the tiny patch of grass and lay thick gravel (not attractive to cats) plus a retaining path, create a simple structure to hide your dustbins (and bikes?), and invest in a couple of huge pots with some permanent planting and spring bulbs....See MorePlasticky kitchens make me sad
Comments (4)There's lots of very good textured melamine faced boards available to make doors with by companies like Egger, Kronospan, Xylocleaf, Pfleiderer and depending on where you get the doors from you can also have the doors and drawers made with a continuous grain pattern (2nd picture sink run), or if you prefer a wood veneer door then Deseo have a wide range of veneers to choose from. If you like the slab inframe look (3rd picture) with a painted door Marpatt have a range called Horizon Inframe which is a 22mm thick door and can be painted in any colour. The last picture of the De Beauvoir Cottage kitchen, Deseo have a door similar to this called Alta Framed. These are all kitchens that i can help you with, I think you can certainly get the look within your budget and if you'd like any further information have a look on my Houzz page or message me....See MoreHelp me make my 1960's family home beautiful
Comments (1)The stark white often makes exteriors seem stuck in their era of construction. You could consider changing the white areas to a sage green, or using a different style of cladding in the upper section. A natural wood or colorbond metal? Then going dark on the trim, windows and changing the front door to a modern styling (narrow glass panels in wood or against a dak color) and taking the color through to the garage door. The porch area could have two doors, instead of a panel with window, with one being the functional door and the other remaining closed so it givrs the impression of a larger entry way....See MoreHelp me make my bedroom more cosy and inviting
Comments (8)I find your room really, really cosy! It’s lovely. Although it is neutral you have light and dark elements which stop it looking boring. It just looks like the walls have been forgotten, so some art above the bed, or on any other blank walls would look great. A lightweight canvas rather than a heavy framed print. Panelling is beautiful but unless you do it yourself then it can be pricey....See MoreJonathan
