hi,

I would like to get my bathroom re-done. Current layout is attached. Altohugh sink is smaller. I can either go with that layout again (with a smaller bathtub though 1600) or can change the layout by putting bath parallel next to window. This means I need ot carry the toilet to the left next to basin. I know it will make the romm look bigger but not sure how much hassle it will bring to carry toilet . Also with that design shower and toilet will be against the side wall which is next to a bedroom. As I want fixed shower head and valves concealed in wall not sure if noise will be na issue. Do you think changing the design will have a big impact or shall I go ahead with attached.

Also I would like to make the wall that has window on it a feature wall and it seems putting shower head etc against feature wall would look better as you enter the room.

I would be keen to hear ideas about feature wall as well. I was thinking to have all walls white marble tiles 600x300 (maybe not pure white but with some marks) and do the feature wall with mother of pearl mosaic tiles. What do you think?

Hi I think having the bath in front of the window will make a lot of difference to the room. To move the toilet to next to the basin really should not be much of a problem it just means you will have to have the soil pipe run across the wall which could be boxed in and tiled over.

With regards to the amount of noise the shower will make while running will generally depend on how high your water pressure is but generally speaking it should not be much of a problem.

I would still suggest tanking/waterproofing the room prior to the installation of a standard shower tray or bath. Waterproofing membranes with the European Technical Approval will withstand normal movement within a house but the flooring and walls need to be of sound construction - a wetroom can be properly fitted in age of building. These principles apply to a standard tray or bath as the silicone beading around the edge may fail (from movement/age) and let wall bypass the tray, causing damage to the building underneath. This picture was taking after a bath with wall mounted shower was removed. The silicone had failed causing the wood to rot. This was all replaced and the below was created in its place: A bath will be easier for people with young children and if you plan to sell on, a wetroom will appeal to some where a bath will appeal more to others. Which ever path you choose (both your designs look nice) I would recommend waterproofing the room before it is installed. Kind Regards Mike

Thanks both, I did think about putting in a tall unit to the right of the window but the client wanted a worktop going all the way along. Yes there will be some storage under the basin but it is only a 600. I also played with putting a unit opposite the WC but you end up with 400mm between the end of the WC and the unit which is no good. What do you think to this? Putting open units on this wall here.

Your layout seems very well thought out. Here are a few practical things to consider. Choose a bath with a non slip base safe for standing when showering but is also comfortable to lie on. Install a dual shower head system with a longer than average hose which makes children’s hair washing easier and helpful when cleaning the bath. As Isla says, a pivot screen is essential to make it easier to bathe children but also to reach the bath taps. A bath with wide ledges which can hold containers for toiletries, sponges, toys and so on is also handy. As is a sink unit wide enough for hand-soap, toothbrush holders, etc. Having a large sliding door mirrored wall unit above the sink (not the toilet!) is also great for keeping your surfaces clear. I would always choose wall panels instead of tiles as they’re much easier to keep clean.
