Replacing conservatory with decking/patio
Comments (7)Hi, I notice your post was back in July, so not sure if you still need advice? Anyway, my brother is a builder and he laid decking over my rather tatty patio a few years ago and it really is an improvement. He built a framework a few inches above the old patio, and laid the decking onto that. I notice on garden makeover shows that they sometimes lay decking over untidy concrete structures, so I would imagine the same can be done on your old conservatory base. It’s funny, conservatories are a bit like marmite - you either love them or hate them!...See MoreDecking/Patio ideas
Comments (2)I think some lovely sandstone paving would look great and tie in nicely with your country garden. I too have a decking patio but after 8 yrs it is already starting to rot in places so once lockdown is over I will be having it removed and replaced with sandstone. It’s a good hardy material that will last forever. This is a corner of my upper garden which is sandstone....See MoreHas anyone used outdoor grade porcelain as a patio?
Comments (91)This is just my opinion about porcelain, some people don’t have the same opinion. The non slip factor is fabulous and you can walk barefoot on it in the rain and it’s steady underfloot. It is only the difficulty of cleaning R13 porcelain that is annoying. A lower grade like R11 is easier to clean. I’ve bought a jet washer so we shall see how that goes....See MoreSteps from dining room to lawn, or raised deck/patio and then steps?
Comments (3)My garden originally had a step down from the kitchen, onto wobbly concrete, then 2 steps up to the rest of the garden. We eventually decked the lower patio bringing it level with the kitchen door. Problem with decking is it isn’t long lived. Within 8 years it was starting to rot. However, there are some lovely hardwood decks that aren’t cheap but last much longer. Last year we removed the deck and laid paving level with the kitchen door with a drainage grill running by the house. It wasn’t cheap but I think it will outlive me! With yours, I think the 2nd option sounds good. I would raise the whole lot level with the dining room, create a nice big patio suitable for seating or a table and chairs, and then further on create nice wide steps going down to the lawn. This can be done with decking (budget option) or paving ( more expensive sandstone/porcelain). Your current layout isn’t ideal and very bitty. This is my little patio level with house then steps up....See More- 10 years ago
