Help with a TINY loft bedroom

I am about to move into this tiny loft room but I have no idea how to get storage into it as the walls are very low, 25 inches one side and 27 the other. The bed in the photos is a 3/4 double and is set across the room at the moment. there is a small cupboard/airing cupboard in the hall that I can use to put some clothes in but Ill need more than that. Any help with storage or how to make the room look bigger would be greatly appreciated! The photos are of the room with the current tenant living there, not qmy mess or furniture!!

Near the door in the alcove get a bigger unit that maximises the space there is there. Tricky for clothes; what about a bracket that can be screwed to the wall like a large handle if you know what I mean then you can hang clothes on hangers from that. Looks like you could add a shelf above the bed for a small beside light. place for water etc. New bed with drawers in ? Add some hooks to be back of the door for bags etc.

Hi - I agree with some of the others that you should add a wardrobe (preferably fitted) where the white unit currently is. Ideally you want somewhere for clothes but drawers underneath and probably some overhead storage as well I'd say. You say your son is a real book worm and I noticed a lot of books at the end of his bed - could you put shelves up there where the clock and cool sign is? Either regular shelves or ikea picture ledges look nice with books - that's what we used as per attached photo. Also could you get something like a long ikea Kallax (4x1) to fit under the bed? It might be too high but you can get ones from Argos that are smaller I think and with the baskets that fit in each hole they would be perfect for Lego? I think it's a really lovely room and with a bit of sorting could look great and work well for your son

You need to think about what you want to use the room for, then look at likely furniture placement and the furniture that has to stay, lastly you need to unify the scheme with decorating and soft furnishings which will be easier to decide upon when you know what is staying ( for instance is there a carpet that has to stay) The obvious problems to resolve are: the clutter - which will likely be resolved with a good clear out- you could also build storage cupboards under the slope of the roof assuming this doesn't make the room the wrong size to accommodate whatever else you may need. The poor quality walls- which will look better for freshening up with paint- a good decorator will fill holes and recommend a really flat paint which will help. A good decorator will pop the lights out to paint well. If this room is going to be a bedroom then it may be worth getting additional softer lighting. Lastly you seem to have 2 small velux windows at heights that don't match which doesn't help with a polish look. If I was going to use this as a bedroom I might consider replacing them with a statement window. Lastly thanks for the pics but they are so close to things it is hard to visualise the whole room- any chance of a wider pic and a plan?

If I were designing this room I would start with what you need in the way of storage etc. Do you need some seating? It would work well doing a lovely built in seating on the lower level against that back wall. This could have some storage built underneath for folded clothes. I would also get in some more permanent steps (beside that built in furniture - again these can be made to lift up as storage). I would also do a feature wall behind the sofa (back wall) maybe brick effect paper would work well? (depending on your tastes) I would then also look at layering the lighting to create some real impact and create a great mood to relax in. Hopefully its given you a few ideas :) Gina

Hi. You would need to be very supple for this (!) but you could bring the bed forward and add a clothes rail behind. Use a curtain to disguise most of the storage. Layer the bed with cushions and throws so it becomes the focal point. Agree with headers re storage bed, look for one that front opens or has front drawers and store items in there that you don't need frequently. I'd use the cupboard for bags and shoes so as to try and keep the rest of the room as clutter free as possible. Can you paint the room? A cooler colour may make it feel very marginally bigger as the cream/beige looks a little warm. I'd keep the chest of drawers in the same as the ŵall colour so they blend in and add colour for cushions etc. Mirrors will make a room feel bigger but im not sure where they would fix. Perhaps go for a wider cabinet to the left of the door and add a free standing mirror on top? Or alternatively look at mirrored caninet/s
