We have a wooden Venetian blind in our bathroom. Window can still be opened and steam can escape when blind is still in situ. Slats can be closed when extra privacy is needed (usually when we need to put the light on).

Thanks for the link, I'm trying to visualise if the blinds will look odd if only fitted over the lower windows. The window is quite large (4ft wide) so I think it maybe ok, but not sure.

Bagpuss - do I need the block of wood, I though blinds could be fitted to the side of the window?

While I like the look of Venetian blinds, the blinds will mostly be in the closed positions, so would like something relatively translucent (or as much as possible with privacy)

Hi, the whole idea of the block of wood, is that it lowers the level at which the blinds are fitted, The wood is flush against the sides of the window and flush against the top. In essence it just makes the window smaller and disguises the shower rod situation. That way you put your blinds up ( yes attached to the side walls ) but now the roll up to the block of wood insitead of a small rod. Does that make sense?? You can then go for sonething light and airy like a Voile blinds Is there now way you can change the shower rod situation, It's a bit weird !

I am a real fan of plantation shutters. They allow plenty of light in to a room whilst giving the required privacy. If you choose a reputable company they will come up with a solution for working around the shower rail & they will recommend the correct material for the shutters in a bathroom. Good luck!

With the restraints of your shower curtain, Perfect Fit would be a great option. This is where a frame sits directly into the uPVC frame, which means there's no need for drilling. The glass is already privacy textured, the aim is to provide more privacy than a film (or similar can provide) as the bathroom is on the first floor at the front of the house.

DO you think it would look odd to have the blinds only covering the lower 2 windows? The blinds are likely to be drawn almost all the time, and not covering the top 2 windows will allow more light through.

I too love plantation shutters, but budget doesnt stretch to that at the moment (the whole bathroom needs renovating, so the solution I put in place now will likely be replaced when the bathroom gets renewed (indeed the location of the bathroom may move entirely in the house if I do the planned extension, but that is a few years away yet!)

I think less is more in this location given the shower curtain and also budget restraints. Self-adhesive opaque 'sand-blasted' effect film should make the window totally private. You could buy a small amount and test it.

Hi, Have you considered a bottom up roller blind? It would solve your problems of privacy and the shower rail. The roller blind could be made in waterproof fabric. Here's one we installed recently in a bathroom.

Hi Rapscalli, it's obviously a year since your post however if you are still looking for a solution for your bathroom, my premium shower blinds are installed onto the ceiling next to the shower above the bath meaning you could remove your shower curtain rail altogether but still have the protection when showering. Thanks!
