Kitchen Space-Saving Recommendations Needed

Hi Everyone,

A little off topic but I have recently rediscovered my love for baking which is great but also pretty inconvenient as I'm finding myself running out of kitchen worktop and storage space.

The kitchen isn't tiny but gets cluttered pretty quickly (we love our herbs and spices!). Just right of this image is the door and the rest of the space is comprised of bare walls and a small dining table.

If anyone has any convenient storage suggestions, that would be ideal as I'm already planning future recipes with no space for a cooling rack!

Hi. You could add some shelves on a blank ŵall for your storage canisters and spices to clear the worktop a little. Perhaps also put the utensils in the top drawer. You could also buy a wooden board to go over the sink to give you more prep/cooling space and leave it propped up when not in use. Do you also have room for a butchers trolley anywhere?

I love the idea of the wooden board and I'm sure that clearing the utensils will clear up some space too. I don't think that I'd have enough floor space for a butchers trolley but do have wall space so perhaps I should consider making use of hanging or shelving units. If you have any suggestions for particular kitchen units, I would love to hear them!

The simplest way is to shop around with one plan so you can compare like for like. So work out the layout either yourself or with an independent pro like us. Then email or drop your plans and item list into all the showrooms that offer the look you are after. That way you are giving the retailers/trade counter/online shop what they need to price it. You won’t feel beholden to any particular showroom who you may have asked to spend time designing for you and you don’t waste ( yours and their) time with different planners/sales people from lots of places who each want to come and measure up etc . Hi there, When it comes to engineered wooden floors they have been designed to work in conjunction with under floor heating so there is no issue there. If you are looking to go for a wooden floor then we would recommend going for an engineered board with a brushed and lacquered finish. The brushed texture will hide and scratches or scuffs that may occur, the lacquer on the board. Generally our boards come with 8 coats of Super Matte Lacquer. The lacquer will help protect the board from any spillages seeping into the board. Personally I think you have to do some research. Getting cheap tiles on the wall probably isn’t your goal it is probably getting the look right and on a budget. Find a look you like and then see how to replicate it cost effectively. Often I find this is best achieved by doing some legwork, you will probably find that you can get what you want from two independent suppliers and then it’s worth negotiating to see if you can get a better deal by buying it all from one place. Remember there are some cost efficiencies to using the same thing in more than one room as there is less wastage. But remember the goal should be to get it looking great- an example of this is that there are two apartments on my street with almost identical layouts, both have been renovated but the taste level and quality of finish is different. The better apartment quickly sold, the poorly finished one probably cost a couple of thousand less to renovate but remains on the market many months later, now for £40,000 less.

Could you put small shelves or rack above the sink? Otherwise, I'd suggest keeping spices and utensils in a cupboard, possibly on the inside of the door.

Declutter as much as you can :) maybe put the spices in a cupboard and put some floating shelves on an empty wall to put your canisters and hot chocolate etc on? Maybe get kidney storage for a cupboard too? You could declutter the space on the right of the hob and put the tea coffee sugar canisters there with the kettle

Do you have another space you could put your dining in ? That would free you more space for kitchen ?!?!

The small cupboard above the sink opens horizontally and is actually pretty inconvenient, so I'm sure that a rack would work well thinking about it. As for the spices, they need some serious decluttering! I'm considering another shelving unit on the opposite wall to hold everything currently on the worktop.

Unfortunately, there's no other space for a dining table but I have been looking at smaller expendable models as we hardly use our current one.

Extra pull out worktops would be ideal! I'm not sure if there is quite enough space above the white goods but I will have another scan of the kitchen. Hopefully they will work somewhere as the extra preparation area would be so useful.
