Kitchen wall colour?

Do we keep walls & ceilings white, or match wall colour to floor tiles? Or other..!

If there is no skirting then walls should be same colour as units.
As a real change they might look cool in same colour as tiles!

So we have decided on Wimborne White on all walls. We plan to add 2 or 3 very large pictures on the radiator wall. If we still feel this is plain we can repaint either this wall or the one with the shelves. Header13 we really like blue and have used it in our south facing bedroom. Carolina I'm afraid to say no. Picking the floor seems to be by far the hardest decision. We really cant decide on light vs (warm) medium grey. We have so many samples and I think it is just making it worse. We feel light should help keep the room bright but could make it all too plain and samey? Darker may give better contrast and more interesting? Lighting in the kitchen is currently really poor (we took the lights down for plastering as they are being replaced) but here is some pictures showing examples of flooring shades we are considering. Most of the colours seem to be falling in these two camps. White oak vs a grey/smoke oak.

I had to laugh when I saw your first pic. For a minute I thought it was our own kitchen under construction! We choose F&B’s Cornforth White, which is actually a lovely warm grey - not too bright, not too dark. Our kitchen is open plan with our dining area, and also has a pocket door through to our lounge. We wanted to paint all 3 rooms the same colour and, to our tastes, white would have been too cold and stark. Good luck!

I would have poo poo’d this idea before as I’d wonder what the point was, but make your self a mood board using the colours roughly in the same ratios. Are you planning on having some artwork as this may be the lynchpin that helps it hang all together. Pulling colours through from that will help the scheme. Tonal can be soft and soothing but needs layering up with texture to create a cohesive scheme. Alternatively pops of bright colour can look amazing and your kitchen is lovely and bright with good bones. What is the rest of your house like, and what is your style?

Tamp75, I’ve never really noticed the splash back before. It is a plain clear glass (or at least is supposed to be) but it does look a little aqua up close. Thank you all for the great suggestions, I like that they are quite diverse. I’m going to get testers of each and paint them onto lining paper. I may repost for opinions once I have the swatches.

Maybe it's the lighting but the floor looks cream and the units bright white. Normally those two colours don't go so well together. ( as fizzygrotty pointed out earlier ). I'd go for white or pale grey on the walls. I would have gone for a wood product on the floor to match the lovely worktop, or the same colour as the wall tiles.

I agree with the above 2 comments - sorry, but the floor tiles colour isn't working at all. It looks like "then and now". If you don't want to change the floor tiles you could try painting them. Failing that get an enormous rug to cover the floor. For the wall colour I'd use something like Revere Pewter:

Hi Philip,

If the room has a lower ceiling, go with light coloured walls. Walls & ceiling colour should not match the floor colour. Go with colours that contrast and enhance each other. If you are thinking to change the floor too, then I would recommend engineered wood flooring.
