I need help with flooring and decor ideas for my through lounge
Comments (12)houssaon I sat with a piece of it on my floor this morning and I screamed to myself 'what am I doing , Ive got rid of an axminster for this ! ' so I went to the shop and have found a neutral brown carpet 80% wool which suits a large rug I have and should bring out the colours in my new suite , I am glad I took the rug with me because the small chair is a near match to the suite, and the rug/ chair look nice together . I was tired and stressed late last night having taken up my old carpet last night in 1 piece in case I ever thought about putting it back ! everything now happens Thursdaywhen the carpet is fit and the dining suite and lounge suite is installed Ill upload. youve asked about my style ? Im going for the stressed look ! no I want a classy look but also minimalistic due to it not being a big through lounge thanks for your comments to date ps anyone want an axminster !...See Moreinspiration please
Comments (19)This is lovely sized room with loads of potential! We have just redecorated our living room and I would suggest the following in order of priority: Remove picture rails (this is really fun with a big hammer and wedge!) Skim walls (most likely will be necessary after above) Skim ceiling (you won't regret doing this) Paint walls with brilliant white undercoat Change curtain rail or paint white Paint all woodwork with white gloss paint Paint or ideally hang a new white door and paint frame white Rip up carpet (do you know if it's floorboards underneath?) Sand floorboards and varnish Once these steps are done, I would recommend living in the room for a bit before making any further decisions. It will help with choice of colours and leave breathing room financially. Although, I would highly recommend a Flokati rug, they make a a room look lovely a snug!...See MoreHELP PLEASE!! Comments (17)I have a hall way very similar to yours, when we moved in it was painted white. I presume the previous owner wanted to improve light levels. It had the reverse effect! It made the space seem gloomier which may be related to the front of the house being north facing, what direction does your house face as this may influence paint choices. I love colour but go neutral in a space like a hall way as it links all the rooms in the house and in Victorian houses is very difficult to decorate, ceiling heights etc. We used Farrow and Balls London stone as it remained a true neutral,,many other beige/greige had pink/ purple tones which showed in artificial light. I agree with the other comments about stripping the doors particularly if you do decide on white, it will provide contrast and warmth. You could paint a darker colour beneath the dado rail. I would suggest careful placement of mirrors to maximise/ steal light from other rooms. Also pictures with glass bring light to the area too. You could mount pictures on the stair case in line with the treads. I agree with the earlier comment about mounts and frames. I would go for a runner to show off your lovely stair case. Does the door to your kitchen/diner have a glass panel (s) in it, if not I would suggest adding one or two depending on the type of original door you have that will pull light in from that room. Good lighting will help too, it all depends on your personal preference, you could have pendants downstairs and spotlights upstairs. Good luck with it and hope you enjoy the process...See MoreI'm looking for ideas on how to decorate my hallway.
Comments (8)I'll definitely have a look at those colours, thank you. The current colour is Tempting Taupe from Dulux. The tiles are 45cm deep and i have a similar console table (30cm deep) but i have it positioned under the stairs. I'll definitely have a look at some rugs for the floor as you suggested. The current lamps are 30'' in length but I think I could get away with another 8 or 9 '' maybe? I like these styles.. I was thinking of putting up some oversized picture frames on the wall with the map but I'm not sure how it would look, in either a black frame or wooden frame. Thanks for your help...See Morewbaziggy
