How about a floor lamp in the corner opposite the door with an armchair & bookshelf / storage unit next to it along the right hand wall then a sofa opposite (with the back to the window. A rug and / or a coffee table in between to create a more defined sitting area? The dining table could then fit behind the sofa by the windows. It looks like a gorgeous, light & airy space - congratulations on your move!

Hello Kat, I really like your open plan! It is so spacious, you can really do a lot to it. If you don't like the style of the pendant light, perhaps you could change them. Have you thought of getting one in the same colour as an ornament you have or you could match it with any other object with the same colour. That can look stylish and modern. When it comes to decorating, you have to think which is or are your favourite styles. Never mind if you have a Victorian home as modern/contemporary and traditional style can be a great combination. I would suggest you not to get the boring spot lights as with the help of high technology there are a million varieties in lighting and lighting design. Different colours can evoke different moods and feelings, so don’t limit yourself to one colour throughout your whole house. Dark moody tones work brilliantly in bedrooms, and have been proven to help induce better sleep. Our favourite at the moment is Dulux’s Denim Drift. Bright, fresh colours are great for kitchens, and for creating a lively happy atmosphere. I love Dulux Coral Canyon which is really uplifting. Finally, dusted blues and greens have amazing calming qualities, and are fantastic for any rooms you want to relax and unwind in. Dulux Dusted Moss is a beautiful, versatile colour that will suit most styles of property, either traditional or modern. If you are cautious about using colour, why not introduce it slowly through your accessories, or as a feature wall, as these can be easily updated and replaced. Thanks, that really kind of you to say colour happy. It's what I was aiming for. The material is plain old chipboard! It's a marmite piece, some hate it and others love it. I love it, DH hates it! Always a talking piece when someone new comes round. I wanted brass but it was too expensive so it was my next choice!
