need help with lighting.

I have had a house fire so I will need new lights in the stair well and in the sitting room and also the garden room, the stairs and landing celling is about 25ft high so I was looking for a light that will cascade down the sitting room has 2 lights in so that room will need to be close to the ceiling the garden room as high ceiling also has 2 lights but this needs lights that spreds out this is also is a high ceiling can you help??

Have a look on here:- The lighting company, not knowing what style you prefer, modern, traditional, antique etc it's difficult to say.

Pictures would be handy, as lights need to match furnishings also.

The lighting company amongst many others stock long lights for stairwells. I think it's important to stay within a certain style room to room, but that doesn't mean you can't have different lights for different purposes.

Hi Pam,

As Man About The House said above, its hard without knowing your style or the surroundings to really give you specific help, but I put together a few ideas for you, just because it was so much fun! Lighting is one of my favourite subjects. Don't forget the brightness, type of bulb and colour of the bulbs you use will also play a major part in the end result.

Twins, they like there thing identical, having your home being rewired, its a great opportunity to create different lighting modes. i would have 3 circuits circuit 1) Mainlight ( option to have just a single point for a pendent , or you could have recessed spots, even surface mounted circuit 2) corner spots ( there good for night light , if you do have lights in the corner it a good idea to connect them to a dimmer!) circuit 3) 1 single spot above the beds and the switch by the bed side table /or wall mounted light fitting for reading

Is it already built? Looks like a 3D render? If not already built then yes I would put some ceiling spotlights in. It looks like you have a narrow strip of flat ceiling (80cm)? if so I would put the spots there. Perhaps angleable spots on a track rather than recessed downlights as that gives you more options for where you point the lights. Then you will also want some lights in the low corners, I would put in plug sockets (perhaps 5amp ones wired to the light circuit) so you can have lamps in the low corners You might also want a wall light or two above the breakfast bar If it is already built it’s a very different kettle of fish and will depend on what is easiest to get wiring to. Might be the ceiling if you can access from the floor above, or the walls if not.

Natural hessian is a colour I love but it is actually quite dark, so repainting with a lighter paint would definitely help. I think you should embrace the low light level around the fireplace and create a cosy seating zone for use in the evening with lamp etc with a large rug and your sofas rearranged so they are less ‘waiting room line up’ along the walls. Your other sitting room would be available for use during the day. Pulling the dark leather sofa off the back wall and adding pictures with glass or a large mirror will help bounce light into this area of the room. Your dark sofas in the dim section of the room and your white dining room set in the sun drenched other end of the room exacerbate the issue, so replacing furniture to tie it all in will help. A tip for the children’s toys is to cart everything out into a garage or store area and see which toys your child has an interest in playing with. Some will be moved back and quickly discarded so move them back 8nto storage. The ones of actual long term interest will keep coming back. A charity shop run at this time of year is a fantastic way of helping out others in the run up to Xmas. It was also let you see what toys are actually worth buying or asking Santa for!

Another option may be to use the same pendant multiple times, following the angle of the stairs by adjusting the cable length.

Hi Pam, I’m really
sorry to hear about your fire. On a brighter note, I suppose at least you can
start from scratch and have your space exactly as you want it. For the
cascading lights, it’s difficult to advise on styles as it is subject to taste.
However, if you’re looking for something modern I would consider suspending
multiple individual pendants from the ceiling - either in a cluster like the Tom
Dixon beauties in the first image below or in varying heights like the
stunning Bocci
14 pendant in the second image. Regarding your lower ceiling, semi flush
pendants are a great option as you can have something decorative whilst still
retaining your ceiling height. There are various options regarding the shades,
