Tiles, splashback, or another solution to tiling under a sloping sill?
Comments (18)The tiles will be covering the areas coloured light blue on this plan (the white and dark blue will be covered with panelling). Have narrowed it down to three tiles which will fit without too much faffing/cutting: Lucy - a 15x15 tile, though not sure if I should stick with one colour or do some kind of mix with the blues and white. https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/bathroom-tiles/lucy-tiles Rhian - a 10x30 tile. Again, it comes in a selection of blues and grays so I don't have to stick to the one colour. https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/rhian-30x10-tiles?product_colour=14%2C22#scroll-js Illumina - a 7.5x30 tile which also comes in blues and a gray. https://www.tonsoftiles.co.uk/illumina-wall-tiles/colour/blue-grey.html My current favourite is the Illumina as the finish looks lovely. I would have to apply the tiles vertically along the worktop by the sink though, as trimming 1-2cm off several 7.5 width tiles sounds like a recipe for lots of broken bits... Any thoughts on tile selection/orientation please? Had a play in Paint at some possibles....See MoreSplashback decision
Comments (17)We had granite worktop with upstand and no splashback in our previous house and I can honestly say it never bothered me; the painted walls were easy to wipe clean and even refresh with a bit of paint when some stain got stubborn (that happened only once!) The thought of grout in the kitchen terrifies me...! :)) We now have glass for splashback and I think it's the best! (I don't have any better pics of our old kitchen, at the time I wasn't into photographing interiors). My advice is not to go for tiles, just keep it simple and clean. Comments (15)A pale warm stone coloured splash back would work with the units and complement the rich wood. Have you tried standing one of the floor tiles up against it to see how warm neutrals would look?...See Moreindustrial glamour Splashback ideas
Comments (85)@pma - yes I thought about the silver side and although it looked better (guess because of all the silver in the room) it kind of drained the wall? Made it feel colder? Weird. I got a bronzed brass sample from the metal sheet company and before I painted the wall, you couldn’t really see all the colours in it (just looked black) Then after painting, all the bronze and colours popped out of it so I’m getting a price. Will be something we will have to save for as it will be super expensive ie probably over £600 so we are going to live with the painted wall for now and add the shelves etc then see what we think :0) Going to get some gold toned hanging lights as they might just lift that area without it being too much....See More- 9 years ago
