Guest Bathroom electrical outlets-Where??
Hi. I have a small guest bathroom in hall and am at the early stage. Its torn down to studs so can rearrange electrical outlets where ever I want. I don't like electrical plates in the middle of walls. The first photo shows the current plate to the right of the vanity. Id like that one in a drawer of the vanity. In kitchen I put them under upper cabinet rather than in backsplash. The vanity will be 54' wide. Im thinking of electrical outlet on left side of vanity and the other one in the right hand drawer. Contractor says to put the switch for the shower light should be on wall next to shower. Im thinking Id like that wall to be bare so I can put up a shelf for my pottery or art work. Does it have to be by the shower or can it be by the door to the bathroom, with the other switches? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

My cleaning team asks €8 an hour and this includes windows (I have heard some companies do not, or they actually charge extra!!!), shutters, terrace, yard area, laundry, ironing, hauling out the recycling to a common area - light cleaning or very heavy cleaning, indoor or outdoor, all for the same €8. And they have a key to my house. They are now doing all my neighbors as well. I actually pay €10 an hour as they have to come a half hour and they are very flexible and are happy to come last minute weekends when possible. I do my own cleaning but this team does the heavy stuff (windows, shutters, cupboards, kitchen appliances, polishing the floor) every 10 days, so I am normally ready for drop in guests. Still could be good to have one or two. The plant should survive it loves humidity and there's a small east facing window :) @carolina thanks! Great advice on where to place art. I think I'll hold off on a shelving unit at the moment as I don't really need the storage yet. That little diver hook is great. I guess two hooks near the shower makes more practical sense. I was originally thinking of something like this but it would have to be on the other wall sitting on the step but unfortunately not as practical as you couldn't just grab a towel coming out of the shower. I think I've found two art prints for the wall opposite the toilet: They've got a fun nautical vibe (although that octopus is a little bit creepy!). Not sure what would look good on the toilet wall but something big and maybe with more colour. @KK1000 A stool would be great but the bathroom is too small sadly. I think a shelf under the mirror may eventually be needed but I'm not sure about extending it wider than the wash stand? @fran11home: thanks! I should have taken a photo of the light it is just a ceiling lamp with three spotlights. It would be nice to have something a bit more interesting. I don't really want to re-wire at the moment so can't have lights either side of the mirror. They would look good though! I should have done that before plastering and painting. Comments (22)My bathroom is almost identical except for being only the length of the bath plus a couple of inches. I also have an outer cupboard in the same place. Rinq is right to utilise the cupboard for the bath. Mine has the electric meter in it so I can't. Your electric line for a socket can be used for a power shower/water pump. Moving the door to the left and as far onto the landing as possible without having to move the bedroom doors will maximise space for minimum effort. Separate the end of the bath from the toilet with a cupboard the size of a low bookcase. A door on the end will hide toilet rolls and cleaning gear. A blocked shelf at the top will take toiletries for the bath with nice plant above. No view of toilet from bath but with daylight. Shower over enclosed end will contain water spray if the bath slope allows for standing there. I've found a shower curtain works better than a screen. Comments (12)i'd try and put downstairs WC underneath the stairs - external wall for pipes and get a window too. The space you have for WC in extension plans could be used for pantry or tall cupboards/fridge set back into the space so they don't stick into the kitchen. Have you thought about making Bed4 into family bathroom and turning existing bathroom into office or storage space? With it having an external wall to the side it might not be too difficult for sewage/waste pipes (assuming they already run down the side of the house). But really you're just getting a slightly bigger bathroom and the bathroom you have looks like a fairly typical UK bathroom so maybe just make the most of it. Adding a toilet downstairs is much more valuable I'd say. Regarding loft - I don't think you need a bathroom up there unless it's the main bedroom suite - for kids or occasional guests I'd say its ok to make them come downstairs for loo/shower. I'd leave that alone for now and maybe add a dormer at a later date if/when you have the money or feel like you need a loo/shower up there....See More- 9 years ago
- 9 years agoOutlets in drawers are very common. You can buy med cabinets and vanities with them already installed. Or they are add on options to buy in some lines, eg. Robern.

No receptacles that have moving cables. Flexible cords are not permitted as permanent wiring. Even the "listed assemblies" on the market are only listed and labeled under the standard for "portable power taps".
NEC 210.52
(D) Bathrooms.
In dwelling units, at least one receptacle outlet shall be installed in bathrooms within 900 mm (3 ft) of the outside edge of each basin. The receptacle outlet shall be located on a wall or partition that is adjacent to the basin or basin countertop, located on the countertop, or installed on the side or face of the basin cabinet. In no case shall the receptacle be located more than 300 mm (12 in.) below the top of the basin. Receptacle outlet assemblies listed for the application shall be permitted to be installed in the countertop.
There is no requirement in the NEC (US) for a switch, receptacle, or surface mounted luminaire to be 3' horizontally away from the tub or shower. (Canada does)
404.4 Damp or Wet Locations.
(C) Switches in Tub or Shower Spaces.
Switches shallnot be installed within tubs or shower spaces unless installed as part of a listed tub or shower assembly.
406.9 Receptacles in damp or wet locations.
(C) Bathtub and Shower Space.
Receptacles shall not be installed within or directly over a bathtub or shower stall
410.10 (D) Bathtub and Shower Areas.
No parts of cordconnected luminaires, chain-, cable-, or cord-suspended luminaires, lighting track, pendants, or ceiling-suspended (paddle) fans shall be located within a zone measured 900 mm (3 ft) horizontally and 2.5 m (8 ft) vertically from the top of the bathtub rim or shower stall threshold. This zone is all encompassing and includes the space directly over the tub or shower stall.
Luminaires located within the actual outside dimension of the bathtub or shower to a height of 2.5 m (8 ft) vertically from the top of the bathtub rim or shower threshold shall be marked for damp locations, or marked for wet locations where subject to shower spray.
