From looking at the picture I'd say the radiator and the TV set up are clashing with each other for space. If you can sacrifice the radiator and you have enough heat from elsewhere in the room then you can make that area just about the TV unit. I'd also recommend hiding the cables from the TV into the wall as well. Do you know if that wall is a stud wall or a brick wall? Stud would be very easy to conceal the cables, brick would be a little bit messier.

Hi Tony. I think having the tv at an angle and building the cupboard out a little is probably the best option if you didn’t want to downsize the tv. Regarding speakers, ceiling speakers are a good idea if you’re in the construction phase, they usually come in pairs (left and right) and four would be more than adequate for a large room. You would need the ceiling speaker hoods as well for fire and sound protection. Also the necessary wiring would need to be hidden and all speaker wires go to an AV receiver which then connects to tv ( I think...not really an expert on this). We prefer freestanding speakers so we can upgrade as and when. And finally is the fireplace already existing? If not (at the risk of offending other Houzzers:)) maybe consider tv set into chimney breast above a low ribbon style fire, perhaps bio ethanol fuel as these wouldn’t need a flue. Tv above fire is usually a big no no as the tv is too high up and would cause neck strain but the modern styles could work well. Some photos for inspiration (click to enlarge)

@Sonia, thanks for your reply, the hanging cupboard was part of the wall-unit set, it makes everything a little harder, I know... 😣 @The Living House, a rug covering the space will definitely go in there, I just didn't make time to get one. With the rug in place now I'm wondering if the fact that the sofa is the only thing centered all the more obvious. I've been thinking of adding an armchair opposite the coffee table. Maybe adding more elements that are centered vs few that are off centre will balance things out.  @i-architect, the golden ratio seems like an interesting idea but I can't visualise this in my space. What I understand is that the pieces need to be arranged to form an a scalene triangle.

Hello again, We were originally getting Hammonds 'cashmere' colour TV cabinets all across the bottom of our TV wall plus two shelves on either side of the TV. But now we are reconsidering the cashmere colour. Any suggestions on what colour cabinets to go for and what colour walls to go to compliment a dark room(preferably Dulux)? This is the maximum brightness/natural light this room gets. Its quite dark on a very cloudy day. Attaching the current wall and also the cabinet/unit sketch. Hoping it'll give an idea of what we are trying to achieve. Ignore the colour in the sketch. My husband thinks they'll look too sterile/hospital like if we choose white shades but since that room is pretty dark and the cabinets will be the focal point, I don't know what wall-cabinet colour combinations to go for. The adjoining kitchen/dining room is Country Cream with greenish-grey gloss cabinets. Again that's also a dark room because of a massive Oak Tree. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
